  • 2 of the books I've received today from the same swapee stink of fags. Both worth about a fiver on amazon.

Any ideas for getting rid of the stench or do I just bin 'em?!

    :(

no advice - but wanted to say i have recieved a few dubious quality books - i dont mind ex-library, or even well read but i object to one covered in food, and two covered in cobwebs

i do wonder about some people

Its worth having a look on that bookfinder...I have a little book that is about passenger ships and could not find it on Amazon catalogue no matter HOW HARD I tried...looked it up on the bookfinder with the intention of putting it on ebay and...lo and behold...it was there ON AMAZON!!!!!!!!!! So I can put it on now...great stuff :D

well lets just say - i hope it was food - it was brown, sticky and didnt fully come out of the envelope - it went all in the bin

strangely i had several other swap books from the same person in the last week and the others have all been fine - just this one

do others leave bad feedback when they get a dodgy one? i cant decide what to do

  • Finally got round to registering last night, and sorted through piles of books at the weekend which are probably going to be 1p books on Amazon, so thought would put them on listbooks and readitswapit.

I have a couple of questions for those who have already used readitswapit, please?

Do you list the condition of your book, as it doesn't really seem to prompt you to and if you do, do you put in the same level of detail as you would for Amazon or listbooks? I notice some people have and some haven't. Some of my books have tatty covers, so feel I need to make people aware of this.

Those of you that have swapped and then sold on Amazon (or put up for sale on Amazon) - have you actively sourced these books for a swap, or is it only when someone has approached you for a swap, that you have taken something from their list that is very saleable?

BTW - I have finally found a charity shop near me that sells books for 10p (paperbacks)! I cannot tell you how excited I was (yes, need to get out more). Was going to take note of the ISBNs, to check them out on Amazon, then thought it would cost more in petrol to go back for them afterwards. So small shopping spree followed!

I've had 2 emails today from amazon - the ones notifying pro-merchants that an item has ended as it's been purchased. However I usually get the other email before this one - the usual one telling me either to dispatch or occasionally that the sale is still pending.

Haven't had these emails, and when I search transactions the 2 items are nowhere to be seen, either in completed transactions or in pending.

Anyone else come across this situation today?
  • Well, the_book_depository has received 22052 feedbacks over the last 30 days, approaching a 1000 a day, and as most people don't leave feedback..

That's pretty amazing really, isn't it? I presume it is cheaper for a book store to sell online via Amazon than pay for and run their own website? Particularly where you want to sell over the internet - believe it can get very expensive then. But how on earth do they sell so many, I'm sure they are not usually the cheapest (or are they?!)? Might have to buy something just as a fact-finding mission!!

I started off putting the condition but don't bother now as so many other swappers don't mention it (and a few of the books I've received have been quite tatty but it wasn't mentioned). Saying that, I haven't got any really tatty books to swap anyway. If I had I would probably say.

I often try to source books but get quite a few rejections even though I have over 100 books to swap. I guess that as most of the lucrative titles are often quite highbrow subjects, nobody is really interested in chick lit or 1p self help titles in exchange!

I'd say the majority of swaps have been requested by others, but only just, about 60/40 perhaps.

    HTH.

I've had this too with 2 books - the books are now in the closed list but no sign of either a payment or an email to dispatch
