  • Rubytuesday - you sound so excited! I can remember my first Amazon sale too, I went running around the house looking for someone to tell, my cynical teenage son couldn't believe that I could get so excited over a £1.00 profit - it was a bit different when he started selling his things though, he was just as chuffed with his first sale.

sproggi - well done to you too, you are going to get sucked in like the rest of us. I'm going to an auction today where there are 20 huge boxes of books for sale, I've nowhere to store them, they aren't all good but I have a funny feeling that I may just be coming home with some of them......

    Handwritten notes will be fine.

Regarding ebay, I've been trading for 6 years now and have had over 4000 selling transactions, I have had a bit of bother with no more than .1% of them, and with those no-one died and no blood was spilled. You only ever hear about the problems, the good, easy transactions don't get reported here so don't be put off. There are plenty of ebayers here to hold your hand if you want to give it a go.

yorkielass - nice that you've go your parent switched on to the possibilites of you having their cast-offs

lancashire lad - thanks for suggestion, worth taking a look.
  • ack - no sales since sunday and then i get one today - another sales pending!!

am i just unlucky or is this par for the course on amazon?

I was browsing in a charity shop today and came across a proof copy of a book, by Ann Widdecombe, with a brown cover. Is this worth buying?

If it's anything like a proof copy of a different book I saw in my local charity shop, there won't be an isbn, which made it difficult to list. As the title wasn't listed either for the one I saw, I gave it a miss.

If this Ann Widdecombe book is listed, depending on the used prices already listed, I might be tempted to give it a go under "collectable" if I were you.
  • Hi Everyone,
I'm a long time lurker on this post.
I have been ebaying for years, and did sell a couple of old text books on amazon a few years ago, but forgot all about it. In December I decided to give Amazon a try again and so far have sold 9 things :j

I registered with readitswapit yesterday, and have already completed my first swap!

I'd like to thank everyone on this post for their help and information.

Just a quick question - does anyone know how the amazon sales ranking relates to actual sales? For example if something is ranked 100,000 in amazon's sales rank how many copies are sold each year? If it is not very many then it may be worth not bothering - particularly if there are already several copies up for sale. What does everyone else think?

I would be wary about listing Uncorrected Proofs as they are forbidden by Amazon; try 5p listing day tomorrow on Ebay instead!
I'm sorry but I'm not Mike!
  • I've just sold a book to somebody in Beverley Hills. Never had to post to US before. Do I just ask Post office for airmail or is there something specific and do I still put it on a normal certificate of posting?
    Thanks in Advance.

  • seabiscuit -expect anything - it's all or nothing with these sales and pending ones are a pain, there's nothing you can do to prevent them happening

cazmeg - no idea about proof books but as everyone else says they sound a problem to get rid of

jackie - i'm never taken the amazon ratings into consideration, I just list and hope!

nutty - I've no experinece with selling phones, I'd just do a dummy run to see what the postage allowance and fees are, just don't click the final button till you're sure you're OK with it.

smartcat - if it's worth less than £30.00 you just need to send it airmail - printed paper rate, it's a few pence cheaper than normal airmail. Your usual proof of posting note will do for this.
If it's over £30.00 you need to send it 'international signed for' and ask for the extra insurance, it will cost you extra I'm afraid.
