Should I pay..Civil Enforcement Ltd?

Hello all, this is my first post on the forums after just signing up and thought I would share my story with Civil Enforcement Ltd.
At the end of last year I popped into a local co-op car park to use the cash machine. I was there for two minutes, I then returned about 4 hours later to pick up a prescription from the chemist in the co-op.
A few weeks later I got a "fine" through the door stating I owed CEL £40, after a quick Google search on this company it seemed the best course of action would be to ignore it. So I did.
A few week later I got another letter from CEL saying the fine had gone up to £90 due to late payment of the fine, so I ignored it again.
A couple of days ago I then got a letter from a debt collectors Newlyn on behalf of CEL stating that they are trying to recover the parking charge from their Client CEL and the cost was £180. Now I know everynody says just ignore them, but as is human nature I still worry.
I have felt alot more re-assured after reading this thread.
How many more letters and threats can I expect?0 -
Hi Biggie1,
You are doing exactly the right thing in ignoring. Please continue to do so.
Try not to worry, nothing but nothing will come of this. CEL/Newlyn have never done 'court' to the best of my knowledge.
You are just the latest punter in a long list of many many thousands so why should they single you out for 'special treatment' anyway?
In any event you have not even breached their so called conditions. ANPR camera caught you on the way in on 1st visit & on way out on 2nd. This is a well known tactic of CEL.
How many threatograms can you expect you ask.
It varies, usually 5 or 6 before they give-up.
My case (3 yrs old now) was unusual in as much that I received over 15 before they finally 'got the message'.
I have my strong suspicions as to why this was so, but am unable to elaborate further on an open forum.
Have a good read around the various forums (this one, CAG & Pepipoo) for added reassurance.
Come back if you need any further help etc.0 -
Thanks for the reply Hadeon. Its very re-assuring to hear from others going through the same things with these morons.0

Hi All
I've had a couple more letters, this time from the imfamous Newlyn threatening court and additional costs have now been added on. Again I have ignored them. If I get a threatening letter about balifs coming round, i'll park my car somewhere else and inform my neighbour, who has a key to my place, not to let anyone in when i'm not there.
I've had around 4 letters all in all now and i've alwys ignored them just like most people on here who are going through the same thing. Surely these idiots should know by now that none of us are giving in to their petty little money making scheme!
Good luck people xx0 -

Please realise that bailiffs just won't "come round". The law does not work that way. For them to come onto the scene a complicated civil court procedure has to be gone through, and then you refuse to pay whatever the judge orders. Perhaps you are confusing them with debt collectors who are powerless private citizens. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

Keep your car where it is. Newlyn are no threat to you.
See my earlier post-only 4 letters eh?
You've a long way to go to beat my record and even then...NOTHING comes of it.0 -
Hi there
This is my first post and I have read this thread with interest! I received one of these 'parking tickets' from CEL for parking at the Hub in Milton Keynes.
I am in a dilema as I dont dispute parking in the area but I did try to pay by phone however the line was not taking calls and cut me off. I have phone records that prove I tried to uphold my part of the 'contract'.
My dilema is that I think I have a genuine reason for not having paid for my parking so I am tempted to write to CEL to this effect but previous posts seem to advise that I do not respond to this enforcement notice. Has anyone else encountered a similar event? It doesnt feel right to do nothing and I dont want to end up with an astronoic fine or the baliffs on the door step.
Many thanks.0 -

Regarding bailiffs, please see my reply (#406) a couple of posts above this one, and it's not a "fine".What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
Thanks for your reply but I am still not sure whether I should ignore or appeal to this notice - I only have a couple of the 10 days left to 'enter into correspondance'? I think I am justified in my appeal but worry about entering comms with this company. Any views welcome.:(0
