    I've been Money Tipped!
My daughter has recieved one of these today, and same place as previous posts
"today received a Parking Charge Notice of £150, or £75 if I pay within 28 days of issue in The Coppins Bridge Lower car park on The Isle of Wight."

She as a student was really concerned about paying and deputs that she parked wrongly so asked me to find a telephone number to dispute the case and I stumbled along this thread.

I also after reading the forum have no intention of paying any money or communicating with these creeps
Thanks for the info and links, wont get so worried when all those threatening letters come her way.
They should be ashamed- praying on peoples fear, especially people who cant afford to pay.
You moan but accept you have to pay if you are parked illegally by law but these con artists are just making money, what pond life.

  • Great post Pineapple123. Thank you.
  • We have received today a second parking 'fine' request.... having seen this thread we will not be paying.... However I did pay the first although my wife was the person driving at the time and I was in London... can I claim the fee back and ask them to request the fine of her? ... or is that £75.00 a lost cause? Anyway thanks for any response and thank goodness for these consumer forums...:j

You can ask. What do you think their response will be?
  • Hi all.

I have been reading all the threads about Civil Enforcement Ltd' and how many times I read to 'ignore their letters' I am still worried.

So just to be sure I am dealing with the same would-be-scammers here is my version:-

Received a Parking Contravention Enforcement Notice on 19th Feb 2010 for parking in Milton Keynes, MK9 on 6th Feb 2010. We DID have a valid ticket but because we were unaware that there would be an 'alleged' fine we do not have the ticket anymore because nothing was left on our windscreen to indicate that we were illegally parked! But I can just make out our ticket displayed on the dashboard on their own photograph!

What should I do? It already says £75 is due and will go up to £150! Am very worried.

If they are con artists why have the Standards of Fair Trading not done anything?

Any reassurance would be greatly received.

Their letters are designed to make you worried, thats how the scam works. They could put it up to a million pounds but it wouldn't make it any more enforceable.

I assume you mean Trading Standards. They are known to be useless when it comes to private parking. Could be something to do with the Government making millions from this scam through the DVLA's £2.50 fees.
Any reassurance would be greatly received.

Just ignore, all the advice you have read on here regarding CEL is correct.

First time poster - and am SO glad I found the site! My son is in exactly the same situation. He genuinely didn't see the signs - which state a 90 minute limit. He was "caught" in a car park which is free, and not used at night except for the odd takeaway customer, and was there from 8pm until 11 pm. He and his friend both received the £150/£75 notice, but I have shown them this forum and advised them not to pay. As someone stated in another post, Trading Standards have no interest, I called them and emailed them and they haven't even acknowledged my enquiry.

Even if they did reply, the usual (absolutely useless) advice from Trading Standards and/or CAB is to pay the fine and appeal it at the same time. Doh! Don't do that!

Do the registered keepers of both the cars know that they will be receiving a series of scam debt collector letters which they must completely ignore? The letters do look scary but not if you've seen them first and know they are standard letters that won't end in Court. See the first sticky thread at the top of this sub-board, for scans of the exact letters to expect.

Any queries at all, don't panic and pay! Ensure the other registered keeper knows this too.

Just come back on here for reassurance if you need it, but the letters are standard and nothing to worry about. Basically this is not a real fine, it's a scam just like a Nigerian phishing email. No-one will be taken to Court, there is no offence and no real fine.

Ignore the threatograms and that will be it.

i too have had a enforcement notice for the coppins car park, gonna ignore it if i can get away with it. My girlfriend got one for the same car park again but we had not found this forum, so unfortunately she paid :(

I was sat in the car park waiting for a friend, and making some phone calls. So surely i would be classed as waiting rather than parked?
