l agree, we havent paid our council tax for 3 months, tried to claim housing benefit but could'nt afford the accountant fee's (OH Self employed) so didnt have this years earnings so they would'nt give it to us, it's like banging your head on a brickwall!
We pay for internet as it's a life line but we dont have sky or anything, just the 5 ordinary channels like in the 'olden days'! well there was only 3 then l think!

Nova have you tried one of the charities like citizens advice bureau to help you claim housing benefit:rolleyes: Do not see why you have to pay an accountant.

Have you tried one of the other Forums on here like the bankruptcy forum ( not saying you have got to this point) but they have a wealth of information that may help you.

That is what I was getting at. I wonder if that is classed as income.
Seems like some benefits can be classed as "income" for loans/credit purposes etc. Often they are also more secure income than working... .

In Lloyds it says 16 hours per week not average etc. As self employed one month you can work 240 hours per month next month nothing. It is a rather confusing concept me think:confused:s.
Well if you were not working 16 hours then it was perhaps useless to you anyway... Is this one an unmentionable one???

Marshallka that is my point if benefits are classed as income for loans, mortgages etc then surely they can be classed as income for PPI:confused:

Yes it is but all the PI had the same conditions so I am wondering if we were covered for any of them:mad:

They are classed as income but how can they cover them with PPI. .

PPI is to cover you in the case of losing your income and income for PPI would be "earned" income...

I asked Di this question last week about whether the application had the £200 written as income (which could be classed as earned depending how it was written!!!) or whether it stated next to it family allowance...

I doubt it maxdp. I have checked my terms and conditions with my firstplus one and it states it does cover you for self employment but only if you are working for 16 hours per week and paying NI.

That is my point is it earned income or income. If you retired from work early and got pension or benefits, you would be covered because of the age restrictions and that would still be income:confused: Do not know where we can check this do you:confused:

l only reaslised in the last couple of days that council tax is a must and takes prority over other debts, so now l know that l'll ring them and beg!! The reason we have to pay the accountant as he does the books, thus showing our yearly income which the council need, they wont go on last years earnings like the working families tax credits do. So at the mo we're kind of stuck as building trade is dire and OH averaging 1 or 2 days a week only. The charities and you ,are all great and l've read a lot of where we stand with dca's and feel much more in control now l know facts and things.

Glad you are aware of the council tax one and you really need to sort this one out fast. The citizens advice would be a good place to go with your housing benefit. God I wished I lived near you and could rustle you some accounts up. I used to do accounts for 14 years...

Make them phone calls tomorrow and also get an appointment with Citizens Advice too. Even if it means sitting and waiting. These things need doing and fast. You will feel so much better when they are sorted.

    ;)
