I have successfully claimed a PPI refund from Alliance & Leicester.

This was within the 6 year timescale. I also had some PPI with anothe loan for a car back in 2000. I would like to try to claim this also. At that time I was a student, so i dont think the PPI would have been that useful - as i never had a job??

The issue I have is whom to send the letters to. The paperwork I have is on Capital Bank Headed Paper, and I have some paperwork related to the loan etc etc...

But did the bank mis-sell the insurance or the place I bought the vehicle from? All paperwork was completed by the dealer, and I probably signed it there and then. So who is responsible on this occasion.

I see that claims for PPI have been against Motor Traders and Banks - so how and when do you decide? Or do you send copies to both?

If it is the motor dealer, who i am tempted at present to send it to, they are often part of larger groups...I guess you dont send to the "local" place where you bought the vehicle? also, maybe since 6 years has passed maybe the garage has been bought out by a bigger group etc etc...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

I dont want to discredit The Bristol Trade Centre - as the car was excellent, however this is the place where I bought the car if ths information is needed.

    Thank you
Hi, you make the complaint against whoever sold you the insurance if different to the lender so the dealer in this case.

Just take a look at the link here and see what you can add and delete from the letter that you send. There is also a template letter on there too but sometimes it can be better to make your own up from this.

You then write to the firm that actually made the sale of the PPI to you if this is different from the lender and don't forget to send this recorded delivery so you always a proof and dates etc.

After that you have to give them 8 weeks for a full and final response. In this time it is usual to get a response of "sorry we sold this to you fairly" but you then respond to this and reiterate your complaint again. The next time they write they either give you a final response which you would need in order to take this complaint to the FOS or offer to settle. (If within the jurisdiction of the FOS)

    Morning everyone,
Once again I'd like to say a great big THANK YOU to Di & Marshallka, I wrote to HFC bank requesting my SAR info in June, recieved info back in Oct after contacting ICO (not much help). November 6th I wrote to HFC requesting repayment of PPI due to the fact I was covered by my works policy for 2 years death in service benefit & also 2 years sickness benefit. 1st December received a letter stating they were repaying all premiums plus 8% interest, total £1533.32. Just for the cost of 3 registered letters, plus the help of 2 very helpful ladies. I'm still waiting to hear about my other HFC PPI, but this should be treated the same as this one (hopefully). Once again THANKS LADIES.
    :D:D :j :D:D :T :D:D  :D:D

Whoo hooooo wonderful news Sparky :T :T  :j , well done and many congratulations, now all in good time for xmas :T .

Hope that Nice Big Cheque is with you soon.:T

I have put a claim in on behalf of my sister for misselling through First Plus and they have written back offering a settlement for premiums already paid. However, it is not even half of what they have paid over 30 months, so I will write to them to say that we will not accept their offer and ask how they have calculated this refund. As well as the premiums paid to date, can we ask for interest that has been paid on the monthly payment (as this was added to the loan) and how would we calculate this?

I am certainly not going to give up on this one, so any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there
Well at least they have admitted to it basically, So Well done.:T
Marshallka is right, and you can always request for a copy through the post of the calculations/breakdown etc to see what is what and to make sure your getting what you should be getting.;) x

I sent my first letter - Stage 1 letter in the PPI reclaiming process to Alliance and Leicester 6th October 2008.They replied acknowledging my claim 18th October 2008. They sent a further letter dated 3rd November 2008 advising they are sorry that their review of this matter is taking a little longer than expected and keen to respond to me asap and a reply will be sent to me shortly. Does this constitute a reply or should I move on to the next stage and send Stage 2 letter? Thanks

    Hi BennyBoo

Do what Marshallka has advised and send them a letter of acknowlegement, tell them you look forward to hearing the outcome of this, as Marshallka says they have 8 weeks from the date of the letter anyway.;)

    Good luck

  • I cannot believe some of the stuff going on here its nuts. I mean I did work about 3 1/2 years ago to identify any cases which could have been missold within my company and we identified only about a 100 or so which were truely missold e.g. pensioners, students, housewife or over the age limits etc on a book of about 200,000 accounts so I am surprised other companies have done been proactive about these stonewall complaints it makes good business sense. Thats not to say there were not lots of others missold e.g. PPI on single customer but other partner is the main wage earned etc. I wonder what the real number is???

Hi there and thanks again for your input here.

May I mention that right now I have one in with the FOS about my Lloyds TSB Credit card, I was an homemaker and had the Protection crossed on my agreement, this was in 2001, I thought it was an whole agreement sort of thing as if it were all part of the credit card, being slack within the PPI issues then, to me it was normal, so of course I thought by cancelling I had to cancel the whole lot and pay back the full balance immediately.

This is actually being dealt with by the Adjudicator right now and Lloyds refuse to uphold this, yet I assumed it would be straight forward due to then being a homemaker not working and I was the principal holder on the card, and the amount of earnings a month then was just my 2 childrens benefits.

This has been a few weeks now but the adjucators states he has raised a few issues with lloyds and now just waiting to hear the outcome of this, hope its a good one.;)

  • That in my opinion is a blatent misselling and the sort we proactively sorted and refunded to win favour with the FSA and it worked there were very few cases they had big issues with, but lets be honest its still PPI and still rank rotten but as far as it goes that is one of the most blatent ones.

On credit cards PPI effectively increased the APR from about say 16% to about 35% from analysis I did previously and roughly trebles the profit made on an account.

If I was running a company and had control I would be looking at selling a decent income replacement and try and sell it for all debts a customers held along with salary and make some reasonable commission from that side of things as you are in a prividged place to have so many customers and details re financial earning etc for them. Rather than trying to rip them off on a one off product because it is going to come back and bite them on the bum. Whatever happened to trying to manage a company and consider some ethics, even if its just to protect your !!! in the future?

Yes hun they rounded it off to £200 a month which were the benefits (child benefit).
This is the amount they had put on my agreement of what I received a month.

As an homemaker I had no earnings, only that of hubby's but he has his own card in his own rights, I was not a second card holder and was a principal card holder within my own right, like mine.
Will check the agreement in a min.
