I have put a claim in on behalf of my sister for misselling through First Plus and they have written back offering a settlement for premiums already paid. However, it is not even half of what they have paid over 30 months, so I will write to them to say that we will not accept their offer and ask how they have calculated this refund. As well as the premiums paid to date, can we ask for interest that has been paid on the monthly payment (as this was added to the loan) and how would we calculate this?

I am certainly not going to give up on this one, so any help would be appreciated.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning everyone,
Once again I'd like to say a great big THANK YOU to Di & Marshallka, I wrote to HFC bank requesting my SAR info in June, recieved info back in Oct after contacting ICO (not much help). November 6th I wrote to HFC requesting repayment of PPI due to the fact I was covered by my works policy for 2 years death in service benefit & also 2 years sickness benefit. 1st December received a letter stating they were repaying all premiums plus 8% interest, total £1533.32. Just for the cost of 3 registered letters, plus the help of 2 very helpful ladies. I'm still waiting to hear about my other HFC PPI, but this should be treated the same as this one (hopefully). Once again THANKS LADIES.

You certainly can ask for the interest too. If its missold then its everything back and you in the position as if you never had the PPI. Also ask for 8% statutory interest on top as you were deprived of the money.
Good luck and let us know how you go on. Don't forget to send everything recorded delivery too.

  • I sent my first letter - Stage 1 letter in the PPI reclaiming process to Alliance and Leicester 6th October 2008.They replied acknowledging my claim 18th October 2008. They sent a further letter dated 3rd November 2008 advising they are sorry that their review of this matter is taking a little longer than expected and keen to respond to me asap and a reply will be sent to me shortly. Does this constitute a reply or should I move on to the next stage and send Stage 2 letter? Thanks

I would just send an acknowledgement to their letter and state your complaint still stands. You still only give them 8 weeks from your first letter though...
  • I have successfully claimed a PPI refund from Alliance & Leicester.

This was within the 6 year timescale. I also had some PPI with anothe loan for a car back in 2000. I would like to try to claim this also. At that time I was a student, so i dont think the PPI would have been that useful - as i never had a job??

The issue I have is whom to send the letters to. The paperwork I have is on Capital Bank Headed Paper, and I have some paperwork related to the loan etc etc...

But did the bank mis-sell the insurance or the place I bought the vehicle from? All paperwork was completed by the dealer, and I probably signed it there and then. So who is responsible on this occasion.

I see that claims for PPI have been against Motor Traders and Banks - so how and when do you decide? Or do you send copies to both?

If it is the motor dealer, who i am tempted at present to send it to, they are often part of larger groups...I guess you dont send to the "local" place where you bought the vehicle? also, maybe since 6 years has passed maybe the garage has been bought out by a bigger group etc etc...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

I dont want to discredit The Bristol Trade Centre - as the car was excellent, however this is the place where I bought the car if ths information is needed.

    Thank you

My successful claim was with Alliance and Leicester - and I have received an acknowledgement, and then an offer - and my claim started after the date your claim was initiated. I would keep to the 8 weeks despite the other letter, or maybe try calling them...???

Because of Alliance and Leicester were one of the companies to be fined, I have found others that have not received too many issues getting refunds - but then again - i am sure there are people that have, especially when banks have to give us money....

Do people think you get a different level of response if you have a ££££ claim as opposed to £££? I know you shouldnt but maybe the process is more thorough for larger claims? maybe there are rules in relation to the size of the claims? - so long as the "rules" were applied to all customers - would that be unfair or against FSA rules?

I should state at this stage my PPI was 800.00 and the refund about 1k.
