    Hi everyone,
First post on this one...After a v successful reclaim of bank charges I thought it about time I tried claiming back the old PPI! I sent a letter to Lloyds TSB who i had loans with over the past 5/6 years asking for details of my loan ppi etc. Today I have received 3 seperate letters from them detailing each loan I had with them.

My questions are: Each letter details the loan amount, loan monthly repayments and loan ppi monthly payment. At the top of this info it states 'Loan Protection Insurance Loan Advance' and then an amount. I take it this is the total of PPI per loan? If so, my total is £7672.77 in PPI. Do I then add the 8% interest to that?

Any advice most gratefully received....I can then send the next letter to them! Oh, also, I am going to be stating that I was never told I didn't have to have the PPI. Are people just as successful with this reason as with some of the other reasons?

    Kind Regards
    Sharibe:cheesy:

Hi Sharibe and welcome, sorry about my above post, I was on the phone to mum again lol.....:o :D .

Right, the answer is yes, you add 8% int to each of PPI's.

I expect this is what you already plan to do but your going to mention about all the loans on one letter?
That's fine, and remember to add the account numbers to each one of them on the one letter, and tell them that you was not aware of the PPI added and thought it was part of the agreement, because I know this was the case with most people.

Now add as much as you can to the letter, here is the link to the information for mis selling of PPI and a list, if any of them on that list occur to you also mention them. There is also a template reclaim letter to guide you on the link,
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

My experience with Lloyds and other members here have all received a standard fob off template letter from them to say "that we must have been aware as we signed for it", if you get one of those then don't let that put you off, like I said above I thought at the time it was all part of the agreement.

Another letter maybe required if not successful, they have 8 weeks to respond on your first letter, if still not successful on the final decision letter they should mention the Financial ombudsman service and enclose a leaflet.

Post your letter by recorded delivery - in order to keep an eye on the 8 weeks deadline they have.

As soon as you hear, let us know and we will guide you from there.

Your most welcome to add the calculations on this thread, so someone could double check on these for you - although I am not the one for calculations here lol.....:o , but I'm sure over the coming days they will get checked over for you.

You have not got to add the amount in the letter if you don't want to because if your successful they must put these back right as if you did not have the PPI from the start and the extra 8% stat interest.

Good luck, we look forward to hearing the outcome of this.;)

  • Oh that is fab info thanks Di....Thanks for such a quick response...If I had been on phone to my mum it could have been weeks before you got a reply!HA HA.

When I did my bank charges they gave me the fob off letter, then I sent thru my next letter and they coughed up!! So, am really hoping they do the same this time. Fingers crossed hey. Trying not to build my hopes up too much though.

    The amounts as follows:

    1. Loan amount = £8600.00/PPI=£1981.30
    2. Loan amount = £8720.00/PPI=£2008.77
    3. Loan amount = £14500.00/PPI=£3682.40

Phew.....Oh, forgot to say they are all now closed and paid!

Will of course be on here regularly with updates:-))

Thanks again for your help and advice.

  • I took out a loan with a car company and think i may have taken out ppi-can i claim this back? Or is it that you can only claim back ppi from the banks?

I noticed on this amazing site that you can maybe claim back late payment fees etc on store cards. Has any-one tried re-claiming on store cards as i used to have an argos card up until a couple of years ago and was wondering if it is worth contacting them to put a claim in.

I have put a claim in for bank charges on 4 accounts under the financial hardship. I have received the expenditure forms and returned them - i am not going to hold my breath on this one as i have read on past cases that if you have a gym membership which i do, banks class this as a luxury therefore refuse to pay up. I have not heard anything yet as forms sent in about 3-4 weeks ago-i know they have received them as i called the banks to make sure they had been received and photo copied them just incase. My arguement for a gym membership is that it is not just good for my physical well being but also my mental well being...if i am not mentally alert and well at work then this could be a downward spiral as i will have to take time off work and then bills will spiral out of control even more. Any views on this would be so appreciated. I guess i am just looking to see if anyone has had a gym membership and whether they were successful or not in claiming back their bank charges under the financial hardship.

I have had several success claims for ppi just a couple of months ago with regards to past loans with halifax and also received 2 refunds on credit cards. One credit card (barclaycard) had an outstanding bal and they refunded the card closed the account down and were going to send me a cheq for the rest of the refund but i advised i wanted this going straight into my bank account, which they did and took two days. The second credit card (halifax) unfortunately i accepted the low offer (i wasnt sure if any charges on the account as acc was closed) lesson learned...do not accept first offer unless you are satisfied with it!
I am currently helping my brother claim for ppi and credit card charges and was on the phone to an advisor with tsb and she was incredibly helpful, more so than when i saw a male advisor when i went into the branch a few days before-when i said we want to claim back ppi -his reply was....it was taken out for a reason. My brother was taken in by this remark purely cause you think the bank is looking after you and think what they say is right.....well we all know now what robbers the banks are.........they are worse than the low life robber on the street that steels your handbag! We are just waiting now for his account details to come through the post as the female advisor could only give amts, dates and amt of ppi but couldnt give acc no's.

I would like to say a massive Thankyou to Martin as you are the only person that genuinely cares about the consumer and given us all power to fight back for what is rightfully ours. You deserve the biggest medal on ths land!

Hey good that they coughed up on the bank charges, lets hope they do this same this time round then - good luck !:D

Brilliant, so its all settled, in that case although it makes no difference if the loan is active or not, but at least it will not be deducted it will be ALL yours, plus the interest, cool......:T , so fingers crossed with this one, and keep at them I say, you will get there eventually.;) .

    Hi there and welcome.

Good you've been dealing with these and now helping your brother.:T

As you know they are all separate reclaims, bank charges, PPI claims etc etc, and if the accounts were over the last 6 years and you have no agreements etc they should be able to provide copies of these either free of charge or £1 per agreement.

Also copies of calculations of settlements breakdowns on request, these should be provided free, although for absolutely everything on yourself its a SAR (Subject Access Request) which cost 310 cheque or postal order payment which takes 40 days, sometimes these are useful to back any cases.

If you require any templates at all for reclaiming PPI etc or the SAR let us know and one of us will post up, although it seems you are dealing with this very well, well done to you......:T  , keep it up and you know where we are if you need any help or information at anytime.;)

    Good luck.

    The reclamation goes on...

Received the following letter from HFC yesterday, dated 19th November.

"I am writing with reference to your complaint.

At the present time, we have been unable to resolve your complaint, as this investigation is yet to be concluded. As soon as all the relevant information has been gathered and the investigation has been completes, a full response will be issued in writing.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise on behalf of the bank for the delay in responding to the complaint and assure you of our best intentions at all times. I am also obliged to advise you of your right to refer the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service however I go hope that you will not find this cause for action necessary.

    You're sincerely

    Central Complaints"

A FSO leaflet has been included with the letter. This letter was received after a confirmation letter from them about the complaint.

Should I take any notice of the letter or just wait for the 8 weeks to expire before sending the second letter? Should I contact the FSO?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there hun

You may have a choice here then, however the FOS do state 8 weeks, or they may come back to you on this, so wait until the 8 weeks and take it from there, if your unsure about this, I would contact the FOS explain to them, also tell them that they have mentioned the Financial Ombudsman Service.

I note that they said about a delay.
When would the 8 weeks be up hun ?

If you received nothing by the full 8 weeks then I would say go to the FOS, another letter may not be required, or see what Marshallka suggests here if you want to.;)

    Morning,

Just to keep you updated, got a call at 5pm from FP ref telephone calls, they told me need both of us to sign form for release of telephone calls, told her not doing it they already had one, just get someone to send me out the calls on CD.

She advised me could not find form, told her not my problem send CD. After going around the houses I was starting to lose the will and told her I have a letter dated 15 feb 06 saying here is your SAR request and telephone calls and that if they did not receive form signed by both me and oh why would I have received my SAR request.

She went away and spoke to manager, she come back to say they use a different system now and that is why cannot locate letter, told her right then if the letters are not on your system you are legally obliged to keep it for 6 yrs and advised her that I know the letters would have been archived, find them, She then said they would be archived but could not tell me where  I did'nt want to know anyway just want CD.

I told her not filling in any form send the CD or I would get FOS to get it for me and that they have with-held info and not allowed.

I told her forget it in the end and would take it further, she then said are you sure have someone looking into it, said okay you come back to me and tell me you going to send out CD or I take it further.

She called me back within 10mins, been to archive system and found form  will arrange for CD to be sent out, told her they have 7days or I go to FOS.

I was foaming went completley around the houses, I know my stuff here with regards to how they would deal with archiving and either they were being completley thick or they were trying to pull the wool over my eyes. This has been going on now for over a week. I feel I have basically told them how to do their job MUPPETS!!!!!
