In 3 days, you have used 119kwh electricity = 40kwh a day. HOW?!
    In 3 days, you have used 15 units gas. Assuming a metric meter, that's 15 x 11 = 165kwh = 55kwh a day

Well, we have a day/night rate meter, I think the house had economy 7 at some point, and BG have said that we just add the 2 rates together and thats how they will bill us, I wasn't convinced but I have been assured a few times that this is no different to a single rate meter, and that we would have to pay if we wanted the meter changed. We have had on in the last 3 days for I would say, 15 hours a day:

    1 Plasma TV
    1 Sky HD box
    2 energy saving lamps
    1 surround system
    1 fibre optic xmas tree
    1 PC

We have also used a fan heater in the kitchen for about 4 hours over the 3 days, and an electric oven for say 6 hours. The tumbledryer has been on for a total of about 6 hours.

The heating has been on 25 degrees for about 15 hours a day (been at home all day, very nippy). I simply cannot see how on earth we have used that much electricity!

I can. A plasma TV on for 15 hours a day - do you live with Ozzy Osborne? I don't know anybody who has a TV on that long! Well, my layabout kids would and, to be honest, they'd have a plasma TV if I let them. They are too expensive for us to run.

Fan heater - even if only 1kw (and it could be 2kw), that's 4kwh. Tumble drier for six hours is probably about 10kwh.

I suppose it depends on what you want to spend your money on. I wouldn't have a plasma TV or put a fan heater on if I had central heating. I use a tumble drier for three or four hours a week and that's for six of us. I know it's easier to chuck everything in but I try to hang things until damp and then finish in the tumble drier. Your way is more convenient but expensive.
  • i know the TV looks excessive but thats just on my days off, when im at work its more like 4 hours a day. As for the dryer, thats it for the week then, trouble is, my rads are really close to the walls and its a rented house so cant do anything about it, so cant dry washing on them really, just on airers in front of them, and because of the position of the furniture, I cant really dry in front of any of them apart from the bathroom. Think we're just going to have to pay more!

4 bed house too, 2 adults 2 children.

elec is about 8 units a day but maybe 10/11 at the w/e when we need the tumble drier and iron.

gas has been about 45kwh/day lately but this week with the temp diving it was and would be more like 80kwh if it wasn't for me keep turning it off when i see a chance and turning the night temp down to 10 from 12deg.
rarely is the stat above 15deg in the evenings so i,m surprised i'm using this much. i'm plenty in credit with the gas, but hate seeing that meter whizz round.

    boiler is 6m old combi.

    Hi,

    Thanks.

My concern is that we spending £30 on gas per week, about 10 units m2 / 100kwh but we only home from 4pm each weekday and turn off CH when sleeping from 10.00pm.

    Weekends its 15-18 units m2 and 200kwh.

The meter does turn lot faster when on CH than Gas fire?

I have turn off thermostat in 3 rooms not used, does this help? My boiler is 18 years normal conventional boiler.

    Here is my imeasure :-
Last week you spent: £27.93 on gas

    £6.24 on electricity
    have you joined imeasure?

  • Hi

Ive recently just had my Eon duel fuel DD go from £99 a month to £132 (They wanted me to pay £150 a month), so I decided to start taking readings. Im on the Price Protection Electricity and Price Protection Gas plan.

    GAS READINGS
    Day 1 - 02124
    Day 2 - 02131
    Day 3 - 02138
    Day 4 - 02145
    Day 5 - 02153
    Day 6 - 02162
    Day 7 - 02171
    Day 8 - 02178
    Day 9 - 02184
    Day 10 - 02192
    Day 11 - 02198

Can anyone tell me roughly how much this usage is costing me?

    Thanks

You need to tell us how much you pay per kwh and whether your meter is metric or imperial. A metric meter and 4p per kwh would come in a bit less than £25 a week. There are spreadsheets (search the forum for spreadsheet) that people have devised where you put in your kwh prices, standing chrges, discounts etc and it'll calculate it accurately for you.
