Dell Dimension 2400 PC for £163-33

Seems random at Dell.
I ordered 1 on sat, 1 on Sun and 1 on Mon (for relations!!! everyone wants on a deal!!!)
Had nothing through so i called this morning to chase the only ref i has avaiable here (the sun one)
My order was apparantly on "hold" because of a problem :-(, but he was going to chase it for me..
went to a meeting, came back and my colleague was on the phone chasing his dell order from monday, he was told (eventually after about 8 cs staff) that his was cancelled, with the usual CCARD rejected story..
Checked my email and i got the PDF through for my monday order which was order literally minutes before his!
bizarrre..
BTW we both ordered the 2400 with 160gb and downgraded 17" £175 oneFiliss0 -
Got my PDF today, so things are looking good. I paid a little bit extra for a DVD drive upgrade and a FDD for support reasons.
Most places have equivalent PC's to this for £350 and then chuck on another £70 for a CRT, so for £216, including monitor and my extras it's tip-top deal.
The Dell customer care tel number for these orders is 0870 90600100 -
Actually, it was 'Ummmm', as in I can't remember, but that number was on the website, so it's probably the one I dialled, but I can't be sure.
It seems I can be offensive and sarcastic without even trying these days. ;D ;D ;D
Sorry Mate I interpreted the post as if it was a sarcastic tone, it was my fault entirely. Thankyou for your information anyway, I tried calling them a short while ago but was told, by an automated voice, that the particular department I needed was closed so will try emailing them for now and maybe another call over the weekend, should my email go unanswered. Another query please regarding the credit card rejection excuse, I ordered using my debit card can they use the same excuse with those?

Ummm, probably and you won't have any recourse afterwards.0 -
I have sent them an email anyway so will have to see what they say when/if i get a reply. I have been scouting around other forums and have found that if you choose not to have a floppy drive installed they dont include the mounting bracket in the case, which makes it very difficult to install your own, although this doesnt bother me so much as i can count on one hand the amount of times i have used a floppy drive this year, it could be of interest to someone who may use them more frequently.

I interpreted the ummmmm as a thinking one too but can understand why you thought it might be sarcastic!
Anyway I've placed two separate orders one is over 72 hours but the order cannot be found. I am tempted to ring up but am afraid of getting told off even though we have a small business.... was thinking I might just say I didnt realise I had ordered from the medium side
;D

You're right, a FDD is generally a non-essential item, but then not when you actually need one. We should be able to boot from the CD but a FDD is still useful for support and recovery.
The trouble is with big names like Dell, IBM and Compaq etc, is a lot of their stuff is tailor made to fit their cases. So for example, if you want a new system board you'll probably have to get a Dell one. But then things aren't as bad as they used to be when the big names used to solder in their mother boards.0 -
I am not really the upgrading type of PC user anyway, was just intending to install a 56k modem, floppy drive and maybe later on 512mb ram, I am still using an AMD K6 500mhz with 128mb ram so as you can see i am not an online games player lol. The only reason i am considering upgrading at all is that my sister hinted she wanted a cheap PC so i thought i would have a 'luxury'
model and give her mine.

Just got a phone call from Dell in India enquiring about my order from Saturday (which i have never received confirmation for)...basically asking if it was for Home or Business use....
Obviously i replied business as i have still got a ltd company from my contracting days....
But looks like they are now checking before proceedingFiliss0 -
That's odd, you ordered one day before me and i've had e-mail confirmation and been told that it's in production.
Hope that doesn't rub salt in the wounds. :-/
I found that out because I rang back asking to upgrade the processor but was told I would have to cancel then re-order. Seeing as they're now a lot more...i'll live with it.0
