Firstly thanks very much to Chico that gave us the heads up on this great deal. ;D
My old p.c finally gave up the chase 2 wks ago ??? >:(so I was on the look out for a replacement, and preferably at a good deal at this time of year.
Haven't received my 2400 yet, but got the PDF's and the confirmation through post today with estimated del' date of 12th.
Have been queuing up software ready to do a Steve Austin on my new machine, and this freeware shopping list may be of use to some of you (apologies if any of these have already been mentioned)
These apps can be installed in any order, but for the best results
1.Download AVG antivirus – Free and reliable it offers quality protection.

2. Sygate Personal Firewall is another well kept secret, there are a lot of free firewalls out there on the interweb, ilike this one as it is clear easy to use and FREE

3. Spybot Search and destroy. It’s not just good its good for you, the guy that created spybot S&D encourages you to donate bone marrow – here here!!

4. For the serious paranoid in your life get Prevx – silly name great product. This baby will let you know every time there is a change to the registry or settings of your PC. It will nag you like a loving girlfriend – but one day it will save your life.

5. If you love Spam look away now………..ok for those of you still interested get thunderbird. This bird is just like me, thin, gorgeous and practical. Go see this non Microsoft mail client at:

6.Finally go to Snapfiles to get tons of good freeware / shareware, if you can think of a problem Snapfiles have the answer.

My other half does this stuff for a living – and he uses the tools mentioned rather than certain expensive PCW / Norton / Microsoft equivalents.

With all the TSR's you've got planned, a memory upgrade may be in order. That's if yours is being shipped with 256?0 -
256Mb should be fine,
After all these are all thin and light in comparison to the commercial equivalents, Prevx is the most resource intensive (and annoying) but thats a price i am prepared to pay.
However I will do a complete re-install of the OS (Windows XP Pro - natch) and upgrading the graphics card to a decent Nvidia powered PCI jobbie.
To get the most out of my Dell i plan to get a good defrag program ( from snapfiles) and not let my mad three year old install games!!!!!
If I am really stuck for system resources - I might go Linux - free, of course!
Hope this is usefulNice to save.0 -
Dell seem to have reduced the price of this bundle to £139........with the free delivery still included.0

I have not checked on their website, but 139 plus VAT comes to 163.33. So, probably no change.
BTW, I have a saved quote with one of the 175 Pound deals loaded into it, which I will not be taking up. If I post the quote details here, will I inadvertently be giving someone access to my Dell account? Can this be used more than once?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

The original thread for this related to buying a PC including monitor for circa £173, delivered. This £139+vat offer doesn't include a monitor?
Still a good price, but not in the league of the original thread.0
