TESCO Problem

I can't understand why the OP didn't try the coat on. Trousers, tops, dresses etc I wouldn't bother (and don't when I am buying clothes in Sainsburys) but I do hang onto the receipt. If I buy a jumper, cardigan or coat I try them on. It takes seconds and saves so much hassle.0

I must say I'm a little surprised here. Most shops don't have any problem exchanging for another item in the store without a receipt. If you want cash back then you would need some sort of proof. Surely if you spend £200 in Tesco anyway then having to spend the money on something else in the store isn't going to cause you a problem? The fact you didn't try it on in the store or you have lost your receipt isn't Tesco's fault I'm afraid
I am surprised myself!!!
I do NOT want cash back, an exchange/replacement would be OK.
I KNOW IT IS NOT TESCO'S FAULT, Did i ever say it was? I left my reciept on the till, like i said in my OP...0 -

THE COAT IS MY REGULAR SIZE that is why i did not try it on. i have a baby and he was very restless and needed breast feeding, changing etc by the time my shopping was over, i figured if it didnt fit, i'd bring it back with the reciept....but as i said three times, i left the reciept at the cash desk.0 -

If it is the latter than it should be ok to exchange or refund as it is not as decribed (sizing labels are incorrect) and this could quite easily be checked by comparing it with another coat with the same size label.
i chose my regular size BUT it was far too big, i am not sure if tesco's sizes are bigger than the average stores, i usually buy from marks n spencers but really liked the jacket- so bought it!0 -
i am emailing TESCO AND SEEING WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE ISSUE, I WILL UPDATE0

Consumer rights give you the choice to change your mind within a minimum of seven days (cooldown) after making a purchase.
If you've bought those items then its on camera at the least even if you haven't paid by credit card, so it WILL be recorded that you did go through the checkout with a coat the same size, colour and make.
You are legally entitled to an exchange of goods pertaining to the same value or a replacement on the basis that the product is not good for the purpose it was bought for. IE: It will not keep you warm (because of the size, if its too small for example).
Returning because you dont like, or the colour is wrong won't do obviously - it needs to be a decent reason and tesco are well within their rights to say no if you give a silly explanation for return (which of course you wont).
Strikes me that they're being particularly 'funny' in your circumstances. In fact, I've never been into a supermarket which sells clothes to get an exchange (for the same product) to be told no. Are you sure that, that is all there is to it?
If all else fails, measure it and check it fits the stated measurements. If it doesn't, then you have grounds for not suitable for purpose bought.
If this doesn't work, get on the blower to the solicitor.
Utter nonsense."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Ouch-go easy on the capitals.
Now you have explained, you obviously had your hands full, and if you go to the shop and ask, politely and explain,I really can't think of any reason they won't exchange for an identical, smaller coat. They may not exchange for a different coat, because they maybe can't be sure of the price paid. Are you sure the shop didn't get confused and think you wanted a refund?
If you weren't polite, or stressed/hormonal ?( ducks..) they could refuse you. Perhaps get someone else to take i,or take it to adifferent store?
It just occurs to me to ask,how long after you bought it did you take it back, and has the price changed by then?
In another post you say you are due to give birth in 3 weeks? Confused ..0 -
The OP PM'd me and said she did indeed ask for a refund or exchange so I can see the point of the customer service rep denying anything
Go in and ask for an exchange you should be sorted0 -
Dave Brooker yet again writes the most useful post of this thread!
