TESCO Problem

Hi all

I bought a coat from Tesco for £40 along with my regular shopping, I went home tried it on (it was supposed to be my size) but it was massive
(about two sizes too big)

i looked for my reciept to no avail:mad: i always keep my reciepts,so not sure if i left it on the cash register or something.

i called TESCO customer services and was told, if i used my advantage card or paid by card it would be OK to return the coat since all the price tags/codes etc have not been removed.

i travelled back to TESCO and was told they do not do the club point card way anymore, so i can use my bank statement only if the coat was the only purchase i made,i explained to them i spent about £200 that day including the coat.

they have now told me there is nothing they can do for me although i was wrongly advised on the phone, all the tags/labels are still intact, it is still in the cherokee bag still brand new etc, just no reciept.

does anyone know if there is any way around this, i dont want the coat-it is far too big.

any helpful advice is welcomed

thank you very much

Urm you were told incorrect information

    - Clubcard is alive and well
    - The return can be made as the tags havent been damaged, I'm unsure on the exact details I think you can only swop for another size.
    - The store can get the receipt again if needbe from the back office system if you know the checkout number and the time

PM me if you need anymore help

Should be able to do an exchange instead of a refund without the receipt or would they not do anything?
  • thanks for the replies.

tesco say that they cannot check the club card for whatever reason.

(although the customer services say they can check the clubcard for proof of purchase)

they claim they can only give an exchange with the reciept :(

Do you still want the coat but in a smaller size?

If so just buy the size you do want (try it on first) and keep the receipt this time!!

Then within 4 weeks, return the larger coat using the second receipt. The info and price is exactly the same on the receipt, there is nothing about the size on there. It's the same item so no problem returning it with the second receipt IMHO, that's what I would do.

Second choice would be to ask for an exchange at a different clothes-stocking Tesco within reach (check on the online store locator to find one selling clothing). Many Tesco stores would allow an exchange in your circumstances, maybe you are just unlucky with your local.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

last year i bought a tv/dvd combo for my son. a months later it stopped working.
i could not find the receipt and the store would not replace it without one.
i knew how much it was and on what day i bought it.
i called clubcard, explained the situation and they gave me all(apart from the till number) the information including exactly what time the transaction was made. called the store back and they said that would be fine if i could remember the till number...they have a lot of tills you know (as the lady said!
called back clubcard.... they took my telephone number. an hour later a duty manager from the store called me apologised for the inconvenience and told me that a copy of the reciept was behind the customer services desk. when i got there with my son, a member of staff went and got us a replacement tv, while we were waiting and man came over, introduced himself as the manager i spoke to and then sent my son down the dvd isle to pick two dvds of his choice as compensation.

i must point out, at no point did i complain!!! on all the calls i only asked for help and the only people who said they could not were the orginal staff i spoke to instore.

    clubcard went above and beyond!

An important thing to remember in all of this is that while a receipt - or some other proof of purchase - is a very handy thing to have to avoid problems, it is not necessary by law to produce one in order to get an item replaced.

So never allow a store to bully you when you have mislaid your receipt.
  • But of course if there is nothing wrong with the coat you aren't actually legally entitled to a refund or exchange even if you have the receipt - you're just relying on Tesco's guarantees and goodwill.

Coupon-Mad's suggestion is very inventive but sounds like asking for trouble!

I would pay attention to d.edna - he/she forgot to mention that he/she works for Tesco!

What exactly are you saying here?

I did wonder that. Uganda hasn't written clearly enough that what he's saying only works if you have other means of proof of purchase to hand. The way it's written some people will think they can get exchanges etc without a receipt. This is not the case. If you don't have a receipt you will need to bring something else to the store.

Ugnade also say you will get the item replaced. They can send it away for repair if they want.
