I've been without the computer for a few weeks and it's up and running again now, but have only just seen this thread had been bumped. I'm so sorry folks, I can't make it this Thurs as it is now too short notice
Looks as if you'll have some nice company though
and I hope to come along next time. xx

I hope to be able to attend an OS meetup one day, However for a meetup on an OS board on MSE they always seem to be pretty high cost. The one at the War Museum which I attended but did not find anyone cost me a weeks worth of grocery money in fares and could have resulted in the high cost of the exhibit and I understand took place in the expensive cafe there. This time again is in a very inaccessible area of London which results in several fares and is based around a meal which would prbably be beyond my means. I considered attending and not having the meal but feel this would appear highly antisocial.
Should anyone come up with affordable meetups, I look forward to attending one day. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Hi Reverbe,
The IWM meetup wasn't that expensive IMO, we had 241 vouchers for entry to the exhibition so it was £2.50 each (if I recall correctly) and then we shared a yummy picnic that we all brought things along to which we ate in the school lunch / picnic room.
A meetup can be as expensive or cheap as you want to make it, the only unaviodable costs I can see are the travelling costs (unless you walk or bike it) which you do have to bear in mind when you decide whether to attend or not.Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0 -
I am now 50/50 for the meet up, and won't really know till the day I'm afraid.
DS got a piece of pallet wood jabbed in his eye:eek: at the weekend at a BBQ, so spent the afternoon at A and E instead.
It missed going through his eyeball by millimeters, but its not a pretty sight still.
Have to drive him back to the hospital on Thursday unless his eye sight is normal again and the swelling down by 50%. It's neither of those at present, but will have to wait and see.....no pun intended
Reverb, why not suggest somewhere near to you for our next meet?0 -
Hope your DS will be okay Annie- I've got my fingers, toes crossed and am sending healing vibes to help reduce the swelling asap and make his vision normal again x -my hubby was at A+E as well at the weekend he tried to slice the top of his thumb off and tonight we have to take the dressing off! it will be yukky but I bet your son will be his handsome self soon (can't guarantee the vibes will work but the get better soon wish will!)
xMay you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:0 -
Hope your DS is ok and you can make it Annie - sounds
I hope you all have a great time and as well as the usual pics, which I love to see, can you take a pic of the fish and chips for me I've just started at weightwatchers and the thought of fish and chips is making me
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hi all
Annie sorry about your DS! Hope he gets better soon.
Sorry a few of you cannot make it, so far the only certains are me and LilacLillie by the look of it, hopefully more of you can make it.
Reverbe, the meets are as cheap as you want to make them, as others pointed out above. The only thing we bought in the cafe was tea and because we asked for extra hot water to add to the pots, each pot stretched to several cups - but that is not even necessary as it is always possible to bring tea in a flask to any of our outings! The tea in Blackheath costs 60 p per cup and with the "extra cup of water" trick it is easy to make 2 cups for that price. The cake (homemade) starts at 40p. I do not call that expensive - for an outing, that is.
The meal at the fish and chip shop is very reasonably priced and there is also plenty of scope for buying a couple of meals and sharing them among several of us (the portions are HUMONGOUS!). I am sure that nobody would begrudge anyone coming along for the social time and not buy a meal if they cannot afford it.
Just one more question, please could you define "accessible" as you keep remarking that the meets are inaccessible.
Fact is, I am organising these meets, I live in SE London and I organise them where I live and where I know there are good facilities. I have always said that I would be delighted for others to organise a meet elsewhere and I shall attend if at all possible.
With regard to not finding us at the Imperial War Museum, it is unfortunate and I am sorry because you missed a good (and cheap!) day out, but quite honestly there were quite a few people who did not know each other and still managed to find each other, so perhaps you did not look very hard or for very long.
I don't know what else to say other than I feel that everytime I organise one of these meets you find holes to pick in them. Please would you organise the next so we can tick all your boxes and meet all your standards. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Great to hear you will be there too, JackieO, I am really looking forward to it very much! But as far as I know the clock tower is still in the middle of the market place, just where the Army and Navy bridge used to be!Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
