I hope to be able to attend an OS meetup one day, However for a meetup on an OS board on MSE they always seem to be pretty high cost. The one at the War Museum which I attended but did not find anyone cost me a weeks worth of grocery money in fares and could have resulted in the high cost of the exhibit and I understand took place in the expensive cafe there. This time again is in a very inaccessible area of London which results in several fares and is based around a meal which would prbably be beyond my means. I considered attending and not having the meal but feel this would appear highly antisocial. :(

Should anyone come up with affordable meetups, I look forward to attending one day.

Thank you for your kind wishes for my son.
His sight hasn't gone back to normal yet so I'm off to the hospital with him today.
The swelling has started to go down a bit but it seems to be hurting more.
I hope you all have a nice time today, hopefully I'll make the next one.
    xx

caterina,& lilaclillie what a lovely day out I have had today I really enjoyed seeing some of the old places although its almost unrecognisable to what it was like 50 odd years ago.All the shops have changed quite a bit but as I said to Tina if you look up the original facade is still there .By the way iremembered what the peacocks building used to be it was a huge Times Furnishing store back in the 1950s.
Caterina, thank you so much for organising our meets you are very good to keep on doing them especially when you get such negativity at times .I look forward to the next one, hopefully at maybe Blackheath as its so easy to get to.Although I had to use public transport today, the trains behaved themselves and changing at Chatham meant I could get there in around an hour and a half from where I live and with a cheap day return it cost me around £7.00 well worth the money for a nice day out.The fish & chips were superb and very reasonable and the non-stop drinks thanks to your vouchers kept us jawing all afternoon So thanks once again for a great day out.
I have spoken to my DD and told her not to keep stressing about her old Mum, I think she worries far too much.
    Cheers chums
    JackieO xx

    Hi all

Savvy_Sue, I believe it, just cannot remember where it was before!

Annie, I am so sorry that your DS is still suffering with his eye and really hope that the hospital sorts his problem out soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Looking forward to your presence at the next meet xxx

LilacLillie and JackieO, thank YOU! for coming along to the meet, it was truly a lovely afternoon and it was a pleasure to spend time chatting with like-minded friends. I am glad that I have started organising the meets, it is no effort at all, I love it and also I feel that I am making lifelong friends (hopefully!). Looking forward to the next one, perhaps in Blackheath as JackieO suggested, or if anyone else wants to add any other suggestion that's fine, too.

    Love to all xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Sounds like it was a good meet up :)

Caterina, any chance you might be thinking of a weekend version anytime soon? I'll be honest, the fish and chips are high up in the list of pros ;) and an oppotunity to sit down and shat with other OSers again would be lovely!

  • :(:(:(I missed going so much as I would have loved to have seen everyone again- please please accept that the "you know what!" in me popped up just as my lenses popped out!
I strolled into the opticians looking like a right idiot with elastic bands round my lenses ( no I don't think the look will set a fashion precedence!):rotfl:
They have replaced the screws and ordered a brand new frame -free of charge!
LilacLillie , Caterina and JackieO -it sounds like you had a lovely time!:T

I am therefore seconding the motion that Icey77 suggested of a visit to "The Fish and Chip Lunch Venue weekend version" as I need to chat to other OSers as they are such good fun and really cheer me up !
Here's hoping that everyone agrees-please Caterina? and could it be at Lewisham because the plaice seems ideal!

Hi Icey77 and Purpleclutterbuck! I am ok with going to the fish and chip shop on a Saturday, but you just need to take into account that Saturday in Lewisham is very busy, so we ought to be there really just a little before 12 noon in order to find a seat for 4-5 of us (or more, of course, if others want to join us).

We can always travel to Blackheath from there for a tea and cake as it is only a very short bus ride.

Please would you post a few dates that are suitable for you. I am not free until after 21st June but would love to set a date after that day.

    Love to all xxx

You certainly seem to enjoyed yourselves. I grew up in SE London and Lewisham was one of my haunts. I particularly remember going to see David Bowie at the Lewisham Odeon in 1972, none of the huge Wembley concerts then!!

I would love to come to the next meet up but alas I now live in the north of the country so it may take a lot of planning, but thank you all for helping me relive some treasured memories.

Oh Remmie I was talking about the Lewisham Odeon just the other day. It no longer exists, Lewisham has completely changed face, you would not recognise it.

However, keep an eye on this thread and if you are ever down south just let us know with a little bit of advance and I am sure there will be a few Sarf London OSers around to have an impromptu meet!

My DH worked there in the 70's managing the live shows.
He was a manager at the Odeon (shifted all over London) and worked on loads of live shows, probably that one!!!
I remember Thin Lizzy and Debbie Harry being there, used to bring home lots of freebies back then, what the performers didn't use.
They had to have a supply of everything 'just in case' they needed it.
I bet it wouldn't compare to what they request/demand nowadays???.................'oo er..................imagine the freebies now :rotfl:
