Thanks for link Annie, she has a seriously large veg garden by the look of it!
Maybe I should "squat" Greenwich Park, or fence off a piece of Blackheath and try to Dig for Victory myself hehehe! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

If you cross the heath as though you were going towards Lewisham there used to be around 100 odd prefabs there in the 1950s and they all had gardens with veggie patches I used to walk across the heath 4 times a day as a little girl to go to school at All Saints School and spent almost every Wednesday morning in the church as it was mandatory to go as it was a church school. There were 4 classes with 42 + children to a class in those days.Blackheath was only a little village then with a large tea room/cake shop in the middle of the village called Jobbins. They had very 'posh' silver cake stands and waitresses in black and white uniforms to serve you .I only got taken to tea there on high days and holidays or when my parents relations visited from Scotland. It has changed a great deal over the past 60 odd years.0 -
Blimey JackieO, you must have been a Posh Little Girl, All Saints is one of the most over-subscribed primary schools in London these days!
You know, when we next meet up at the Reminiscence Centre in Blackheath, I shall introduce you to one of their volunteers who has been living in Blackheath all her life and you might even find out that you already know each other!
BTW I am ready for a Saturday cuppa in Blackheath mid-April, any takers? Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Great, thanks for quick response Annie123!
What is best for all of you London OSers (and visitors of course!), Saturday 17th or Saturday 24th April?
Also, do you prefer to change the venue to somewhere more central? If so, could you suggest an alternative meeting place?
If all ok with Blackheath though, I am ok too, whatever the majority decides! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I'm up for a meet up soon.................. If its a Sunday can we go somewhere for a cheap lunch?? Or even a picnic on the heath??
LLWe are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars........................0 -
Hi Caterina :hello: I could manage Blackheath on my own as it's just a short train journey! Especially as the Age Exchange is so near the station. I could make either date. If you do move it elsewhere I may or may not be able to come. xx0

LilacLillie, I think that a picnic would be better later in the year when we can count on the weather (or at least, part-count!).
Ivyleaf, great that you can make it, I think that unless people feel very strongly about moving it, the Blackheath venue seems the easiest, let's see what other people think. I obviouosly favour that venue, it is just down the road for me, but I think it is fair to ask the others as well for their ideas and suggestions. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
