I know many people have reservations buying glasses online, I was one of them. However, when I was quoted over £200 for some designer prescription frames I thought I would give it a try....
I got some D&G glasses with lenses at www.youronlineoptician.com for only £79.99 also I got an additional 10% off by using a discount voucher.
I had no problems, was very happy with them and would definitely buy online again....
FYI the discount code is EMAILOFFER, just type that in to the coupon code at checkout before you pay for the item.0 -
HI all, just found a code "Spring08" gives you 10% off until end of May I believe.0

It happens on a lot of threads, they post once or twice recommending something then are never seen again. The cynical me just thinks they are being opportunistic from the company they mention.
That said to get back to the purpose of the thread I have just had my eye test (free) from D&A and although they said my eyes hadn't changed I have decided to try EyeExperts.co.uk. £73for rimless with transition lenses seemed like very good value. Just hope they are as good as they seem when they arrive which should be in the next day or two"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I had a very very good free eye test in D and A, and I was very impressed, great service, but the prices were way to high. I haggled for a second pair free (no offer at the time either) but it was still to dear. I did feel bad:o0 -
Hi
Sorry, no info on cheap glasses (I've been using all the good advice on here!), but I'm hoping some opticians may be lurking so that I can get a little query answered...
My eyes are pretty bad (-8.25 bordering on -8.50 in both eyes), and I really need glasses as a back up to my lenses.
I was wondering what the actual difference would be between 1.67 and 1.74 lenses on a prescription of that strength? If I got frames to fit say, 50mm x 25mm lenses, would I really be likely to notice any difference in thickness/weight? I would ask my optician but I can't help thinking he'll be a little biased, and I'd really like the opinion of someone who won't be taking my cash;)
I know it's a bit of a broad question as there are variables, but I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this as the cost is obviously pretty different for the two.
Thanks in advance:DTe audire no possum. Musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
I can't remember the calculation for exact thicknesses, but of the top of my head, I think it would be 10-20 % thinner and you'll get less of that 'tunnel' effect which I'm sure you're familiar with.
Whether you feel it's worthwhile depends on the difference in price and on the frame. Rimless then definitely, thin metal frames still worthwhile but a thick plastic rim would make it less worthwhile!
It's fair to say that like with most things, the law of diminishing returns comes into play.
In that prescription and with either lens index, I would advise you to get them dispensed face to face, as the vertical heights and PDs are critical to get the best vision. They should also be able to take account of the distance of the lenses and the eyes, if necessary.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.
