    I'm going to use selectspecs.com
I ordered from Selectspecs on 13 May and they arrived this morning. 22nd May. Very pleased with them. Paid £42.75 for Varifocals. I sent them my old/broken specs and they measured the PD from those. I'll certainly use them again.

Figured that this was the place to ask as there seem to be a few opticians here:-)

Went to the optician's Friday as I was getting sore eyes and blurry vision. Had been having it for a while but my old optician's were proving a nightmare customer service wise (bought frames from them last year - WORST FRAMES EVER. The lens fell out within a month. I went back to complain. They gave me a screwdriver) so I kept putting it off.

A friend caught me rubbing my eyes a lot and that was the end of that. I figured I'd go to my mum's optician's instead as I've been there in the past and liked them, it's just they only have like, one shelf of frames.

One eyetest later I know why my eyes have been playing up. The eyetest/glasses I got from them last year? Are for too strong a prescription. And a completely wrong astigmatism. Test results below for comparison:

    OLD (WRONG) PRESCRIPTION
    Right - -3 sphere 1.75 cyl and 45 axis
    Left - -6 sphere 1.5 cyl and 155 axis

    NEW (CORRECT) PRESCRIPTION
Right - -3 sphere and 2 cyl and 50 axis
    Left - -5.75 sphere 2 cyl and 150 axis

I just sent a !!!!ed off letter to them by registered post yesterday, asking for both my money back and potentially a goodwill payment for a year of eye ache. What I'm mainly upset about is that I drive. The thought that I could have had an accident because I had the wrong glasses is pretty horrifying to me (I am the world's most paranoid driver). I'm now using my prescription sunglasses to drive in until I get new glasses (and having to shell out for them is also not helping my mood. The frame prices aren't so bad, its the lens prices that hurt).

What are my chances of getting a refund after a year? Will they be affected by the fact the glasses were partly paid using an office voucher? I don't even care if they said they needed proof the refund would go towards more glasses. I just don't trust them any more and I don't want someone I don't trust making something I need to SEE.

Thanks for the clarification. So, if ordering new lenses for brand new rimless specs, it would be important to have the frame adjusted before and after, to make sure that the lenses sit comfortaly in exactly the best position for the optical centres? Hmmn, would any opticians perform this service for a small fee, I wonder?

A decent shop shouldn't charge you, they'd make a couple of adjustments to the fit for free in the hope that you'd return :)

your chances are slim to none. There is actually not that much difference between your old prescription and your new one, and it is more than likely that your eyes have changed since your test a year ago, so there is no way of telling if that prescription was "wrong".

I know this is not much use now, but if you felt your vision wasn't correct with your glasses when you got them you should have told the optician at the time, who would almost certainly have carried out a re-test free of charge, and changed the lenses if necessary.

I have just re-read your post, and I'm not sure if I have it right, are you saying your glasses wre actually made a different strength to what you were prescribed at the time? cos then you have a better chance of a refund.

A decent practice should charge you. Otherwise, how are they going to cover their costs and overheads of having staff there to do the adjustment and take responsibility if they break them!

    It's not rocket science!

How much is an nhs glasses voucher for a 14 year old?

Sprog needs adult sized glasses so last year he had some £125 quiksilver ones from specsavers. We just had to pay £40 I think it was..?
Today, he couldn't find any in specsavers that he'd be seen dead in, so we went to D&A. Found some he liked, full price £110. She charged me £80. Sprog has to have them but was I charged incorrectly does anyone know??

Assuming it's a voucher 'A', then it's currently worth £35.50. As even basic lenses are normally more than that, then kids are generally subsidised by the practice. The amount of subsidy varies from practice to practice and different companies have different policies. I don't think you were being overcharged, just that Specsavers were giving a bigger discount or may even have under charged you.

    Hello!

I'm 16 years old and am entitled to the NHS glasses voucher. I am looking for new frames and lenses.

I would like glasses that are rectangular rather than rounded or oval. I would like it to be semi-rimless and have black large-ish sides.

    Would this be possible?

Would it be better to buy in a store or can I get the NHS discount online and who would do glasses like I would like.

    Thanks =)
