Glasses Buying Cost Cutting Plan Article Discussion Area

I recently used www.thinlenses.co.uk and I am extremely impressed with their service. Their prices are amazing and I was able to purchase two pairs for a lot less than what I would have normally paid for one pair from the High Street Retailers.
It was my first time buying glasses online. I found the process very easy as I was contacted by their Customer Service team via telephone and I was able to speak to a person who guided me through the whole process from helping choose frames from there wide selection, right through to when they contacted me to make sure I was happy with my new glasses when they arrived.
I would recommend www.thinlenses.co.uk to anyone and definately think they're worth a try.0 -
You should just go in to your optician and demand your PD, it is your right - they cannot refuse to give it to you.Hi everyone,
Has anyone had any trouble getting their PD measurement? I called up Optical Express and Vision Express where I've had glasses made in the last 18 months and asked for the PD measurement for those glasses, and both places have refused to tell me!
Vision Express said that I would need to get an optician to ask for it (??) even though they had the measurement there in front of them, and Optical Express said that my PD measurement changes so it is "illegal" for them to give me the measurement as it might now be incorrect.
This just sounds like they're trying to get out of telling me it so I can't buy my glasses elsewhere!0 -
Hello
Try http://www.youronlineoptician.com for designer sunglasses. They have the regulars Ray Ban, DKNY, Gucci etc but I bought a pair of Oxydo ones which arent as well known but they have some great styles for much cheaper.
Otherwise you may want to try http://www.designersunglasesdiscount.com/ they have quite a few too..wackojackouk wrote: »Hi guys
I'd like to get my hands on some prescription sunglasses but more like a designer style say for example Oakley or Bolle.
Can anyone recommend a site or two that offer nice wrap around style prescription sunglasses?
Cheers

There's an article on how to measure your PD on my employer's site here.
It's straightforward enough to do, though possibly a bit puzzling to neighbours who may spot you doing it!0 -
Have just received a reglaze from http://www.glasses4eyes.co.uk/ wrong prescription for lenses and no tint have emailed them but not impressed with

Well, received the glasses I ordered from Eyeexperts.co.uk.
Rimless and with transition lenses.
Have to say I am quite impressed.
It took a 5 working days for delivery and cost £76.95 which included the transition lenses and P@P .The transition lenses were £40
The quality is very good, although slightly heavier than my previous glasses."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

The previous expensive pair were never quite right. It seemed, in the first week, that I could see better if they were slightly raised. I didn't make too much fuss nobody at the optitians seemed bothered when I mentioned it.
As a matter of interest, a past optician, who seemed to be in the job more for enjoynment than money, told me that, eyestrain apart, it doesn't make your vision any worse if you don't wear your specs, or if your prescription is too weak.
Re PD, is it the case that the PD changes, so that it cannot be copied from old lenses, or is it to do with the particular fitting of frame to face?.
I dont think Pd changes that much at all , maybe 30 years later I guess0 -
Reporting in on wantglasses.co.uk. They're brilliant!!! I ordered 2 pairs on monday of this week, and received them today (saturday). Both pairs are fine and were brilliant value at £15 a pair. I had to ring them up about using an NHS voucher and they were ridiculously helpful and nice. I'm definitely using them (or the internet method at least) again. I went into specsavers, tried on glasses and wrote the frame numbers down so i could compare them when i got home and that seemed to work ok. I can't get over how cheap they are compared to the high street! I can see again - YAY! I probably sound like a spammer, but no, I'm just a happy customer!0

Are there any techies out there who can enlighten me on this PD business? When they talk about distortion in strong prescriptions if the optical centres are not quite right, what exactly does this mean?.
Would glasses have to be constantly pinched onto the same position on the nose at all times for optimum vision? If they slip down the nose a bit, does that mean that the PD is altered?
Ok, the PD is the distance between your pupils. Lenses have an 'optical centre' which needs to be lined up with your pupils for optimum vision. If the optical centres of the lenses aren't in line with your pupils there will be distortion, prism could be induced etc etc. The effects are stronger the higher the prescription.
With the specs slipping down the nose a bit, this doesn't alter the PD which is a fixed distance, but it does mean you're not looking through the correct part of the lens anymore which could cause a bit of distortion/a 'swimming' feeling/a perception of the things you're looking at being displaced
Once you're into adulthood your PD isn't going to change drastically at all. The issue with continually using an old one is that you don't really know if it was measured correctly the first time, but if you have a few readings you can be a bit more confident with it. Most opticians should hand it over free when you have a sight test anyway, try and charm them
Hope that helps a bit and hasn't confused the issue moreDFW Nerd #104 I :heartpuls my Kittenand my hat :heartpuls
