Inevitably, there will be a small number of transactions that do not go through smoothly. We are finding this can be for a variety of reasons such as some banks not accepting CHAPS payments or incorrect destination account information. To deal with these we have set up a process for the call centre staff to capture your information and transaction details so that your individual case can be investigated. The number to use is 0845 131 32 34 and I just tried it myself and it answered within two rings. Below is the update we have posted on the Kaupthing Edge website and as you will see we are now focussing on refunding CHAP fees and the loss of interest due to payment delays.

Please keep checking the Kaupthing Edge website for updates and we expect to be able to announce in the next few days everything is working normally.

Many thanks for your patience while we have worked to resolve these issues

    Backlog of Withdrawal Payments:

We are pleased to confirm that the backlog of external payments requested on or before Monday 20th October has now been cleared.

These payments have been sent out and have started appearing in destination bank accounts.

If you have any further queries on payments that were requested on or before Monday 20th October, please contact our Customer Service team on 08451 31 32 34.

    Withdrawals from Tuesday 21st October:
BACS transactions are being processed within normal timescales and will be credited within 3 working days.

We are currently unable to process CHAPS payments within the normal timescale (i.e. same day or next day) and these requests will take 3 days. Please use the BACS service until further notice so that no fee is incurred.

Interest adjustment and refund of CHAPS fees:
ING Direct will refund the loss of interest on your Kaupthing Edge account that resulted from payment delays. CHAPS fees will also be refunded in cases where the payment was not sent within the normal timescale. An update will be posted on this page next week, giving further information and an update on timings.

    Payments In
Not all payments in are being processed normally. We are continuing to work to resolve this and will issue an update as soon as possible.

    Fixed Term Product Accounts:
Customers with deposits in a Fixed Term Savings accounts can be assured that these rates will be honoured by ING Direct for the remaining term of the accounts

Thank you for you patience, and once again we apologise for any inconvenience and distress that payment delays have caused.

    More news from ING Group
ING’s position as a strong and healthy bank has been boosted by the Dutch Government. It is making a €10 billion investment in ING and comes at a time when Governments all over the world are taking steps to support their major banks. This means ING is now an even stronger company for you to have your savings with.

HEY ING Spokesperson!! To have the neck to come to this thread/site this morning with this statement is beyond comprehension. You gave people hope when clearly there was none! You come on to this site and come across as the nice guy when in fact you are pathetic!......Strong word I know but you only have yourself to blame!! And what really boils my blood is those little pathetic plugs you keep inserting in the latter paragraphs!!

The good people of this site demand a full, transparent and honest explenation of your conduct throughout this sorry debacle - And they damand it NOW!!!

I have just checked my bank account and still no transfer. I am so sick of getting the run around. Am I the only one still to get their missing funds. I dont know what to do now. The call centre staff are no help. I have spoken with Peter Dennis who is supposed to be a supervisor and who allegedly put a chaser email to head office on Monday to trace but guess what still no reply from them.

But I don't understand WHY there no chaps payments (7th, 8th onwards) through today if they cleared the last of them last night, surely there would have been more than a couple of people celebrating................

The only answer is that they weren't all cleared by close of play last night - not that that helps you at all. Another question is what recourse there is against a company that continues to make public, erroneous claims vis-a-vis the service it is capable of providing...and, any trolls who may be lurking, don't start on at me that 'ING are clearing up a mess that we helped to bring about'...the issue that has everyone here so exercised is ING's inability to communicate clearly and accurately - oh annd to assume that the missing money is simply a matter of inconvenience which can be pushed to side of one's mind!

Also ring KE on O845 131 32 34 and tell them, only if you ring them will they request the administrators to look into what has happened to your CHAPS payment and where your cash is.

  • I really feel for you, Zaphod, Ippylady, Caretaker and others still waiting. It would be so much easier if they gave realistic deadlines instead of time and again giving dates they can't meet. This has happened so many times now.

FWIW, I called ING Direct around an hour ago and told them that I was quite disappointed with the way people had been treated and that - even though I had my money - I knew all too many people who didn't, and even one person was one person too many. I made the point that I understood that getting things sorted was difficult, but the delay wasn't as frustrating as the fact that we kept getting false information - dates which we were assured were "final" deadlines which then slipped. How can I trust a bank which can't give me a realistic timeframe for action? I have a good bit of existing (pre-Kaupthing) business with them, and I've generally been happy, but their actions in the past couple of weeks have really left a bad taste. The person at the other end was very apologetic and said, basically, "Yes, we messed up" (not as bluntly as that, but that was the message), and assured me that they were working round the clock and things would be fully sorted out by early next week.

I've asked a couple of colleagues (who unlike me have seriously large sums of money with ING) to get in touch as well. I figured it may help push things if "old" customers gave ING the message that the repeated slippage of deadlines was harming their image. I hope it helps somewhat, at least.
