Banned from Tesco - 'Misusing Coupons'

  • I have three Tesco within 16 miles of my house and one of them take coupons without puchasing the item as long as they stock the correct item/size but the other two do not allow you to use them unless you purchase the exact item.

Its always the minority that spoil it for the rest. I bet that given a few months all Tescos will only take them If you buy.

That policy of ours is from 2005 out of date now

    Ohh, I didn't realise that.

Would you have a copy of the new policy please, as that's identical to what I'm being told on the phone as well.

    This is getting confusing

Dailyclicker, I think you are being treated unfair on this thread. I've used thousands of pounds worth of coupons (without buying the product) both at Self Service and at Manned/Womaned ;) Tills. They have a policy after all which allows this. Only today I used another fivers worth.

Tesco are very wary of internet coupons and I think your low purchase brought attention to yourself. At the same time I think it is a disgrace that you can't speak to the manager.

Try again but also look at the positive side. There are so many more cheaper shops out there. Lasy year 90% of my shopping went through Tesco. This year it will be nearer 50% and this is with coupons.

    Good Luck.

d.edna is talking BS. The policy is the policy stated...

BUT many local stores vary policy instore as well as store to store.

One store I know varys from SA to SA with the following responses:

    - Only 1 coupon per transaction
    - Only coupons less than 1.00 allowed
    - No internet but unlimited
    - Any coupons up to 10% of total
    - Any coupons upt to 100% of total.

Why is this? because of !!!! poor traiing and people like d.edna thinking they know their policy.... but deciding themselves to mandate wrong policy and then police it.... on behalf of their HQ.

HQ of tesco should force their staff to know their policy....

Just to add about policy... one of my stores has recently shifted into a 100% total store from 0% total store.... because of a manager change and the recession... drives people to coupon more.

Basically, its the same but with these extra ammendments

    - The store manager can decide the amount of coupons to be accepted (none tesco ones)
    - Self scan coupons need to be approved by staff and processed by them
    - The store can refuse any coupon at anytime without notice

    EXACTLY!!

Poor Training is what it's down to. Half of the staff do not even know a thing about the coupon policy, and have never seen this latest policy which is claimed to be from '2005.'

They have had 3 years to learn it? I'm sure the basics haven't changed, but they are unable to even grasp them.

Surely it isn't that hard to brief them about it

Have you got your own store polices for all of these!? I'm quite sure you wouldn't.

Or do you go along with what the Customer Service/Head Office has briefed your manager with.

Tescos average staff turnover is 2 years. In retail people don't stay for life like seems to be assumed.
