the problem is when the coupons the customers present are 'out of date' and 'photocopied' so Tesco cannot claim back their money.

That is what I think has happened to me. They seem to be blaming a 'Coupon Issue' they have had directly on me.
It's a shame you don't use a clubcard. Then they would have a record of what you have used and they could see that you have done nothing wrong.

Still no excuse for them not to talk to you, though. I'd go to the local paper if I were you.

Store could not ban any individual for trying to give coupons as a method of payment to a SA.

They could ban an individual for almost any reason they wanted to.

Its been interesting reading this thread. I used to use coupons at Tescos - depending which SA you went to depended on what they took. Some would take just 3 coupons for stuff you hadn't bought. Some would take coupons less than 50p. Some would take not over 10% of your bill.....and this was at the same store! The thing that stopped me using them was I handed some coupons to the SA and said "I'm not sure which of these you are allowed to take, could you let me know". He took the 3 largest and gave the rest back to me. The last one wouldn't go through and he checked with another SA. She took all 3 coupons back and ADDED them back to my bill and said they were all over £1!! I was so embarrassed, I've never done it again since!! She said it so loud that everyone could hear! It would just be nice if customers knew where they stood. As it goes to show above - different policies fly around and even the SA's don't know what's going on.
I do think its a bit harsh to be banned from Tescos for using a couple of coupons twice in a row. Surely the SA or store manager could have just politely told the OP that in their particular store they do not take these coupons.

A similar thing happnened to me. I didn't have a lot of confidence at the time and started using coupons a bit and my husband was always with me. Got to know the poilcy and decided I'd brave a shop with coupons on my own! Got a very unhelpful person who embarrased me too and I was really upset. I haven't been back since, or used any coupons. I do 90% of my shopping online now.

Have you got your own store polices for all of these!? I'm quite sure you wouldn't.

Or do you go along with what the Customer Service/Head Office has briefed your manager with.
The customer service centre is classed as a branch and doesn't set group policies and I was asking Miss I know everything what the policies where.

As usual Us staff only work there and we know nothing

I know you are being sarcastic with this comment, but there's a lot of truth in your rudeness & sarcasm!

I'm embarassed to say I've worked in Tesco in the past and know first-hand the checkout training is pathetic (particularly for evening/weekend staff). As neas says, within a single store every assistant tells you something different (most of the time, incorrect)
Fair enough an individual store can decide to alter the national policy, but a lot of the problems people have is that checkout people are clueless & make up their own rules half the time.

To be fair you have to sign to say you have received adequate training and know policies etc, You are ment to ask a supervisior if your unsure, same goes for anywhere

But still I stand by that comment, it wasn't rude its just some people on here think they know better than staff who execute the policies.

..what happens to employees who aren't prepared to sign that they have had adequate training?

Do they make them sit on the naughty step under the vase shelf?
