£1.70 a week is nothing to Tesco! I'm sure they will be loosing far more than that if you stop going in!

And there's no excuse for making you feel so bad, a polite warning would have been nice! Can't believe how horrible people can be!

I am completely confused by this thread.

Surely if Mitchum issue a deodorant coupon it is to encourage customers to buy their product.

If a customer uses the coupon and doesn't buy the product then Mitchum will be losing money as they will have to reimburse Tesco and have made no sale. Why should Mitchum, or any other company be expected to subsidise someone who isn't even one of their customers?

I am surprised that the self service tills accept coupons as they can't be taken from the customer after they have been used.

It was my understanding that coupons state that they are for one use only, so if the same coupon is used repeatedly, is this not theft, or at the least fraud?

I think you are lucky to have only been banned, if you had done this in my shop I'd have been looking at prosecution ;)

My local Tesco won't even accept their own coupons if the product has not been purchased.

I recently handed in a '25p off when spending more than £1 on Tesco cleaning products clubcard coupon' which the checkout operators till rejected because my washing up liquid was not classed as a 'cleaning product', and the cream cleaner I had bought was less than £1.

Depends how much she abused the system

Again, we have 1 side, I wouldn't judge the staff as it would be biased and said staff are not here to defend themselves
  • Can I just rewind here....Im confoosed and need to know the facts,

    1. You took coupons up to the self service till, then popped the SAME coupons back into your pocket...and used them the next day, then the next day, then the next day and so on for TWO MONTHS (or so)?

Surely the barcodes on the coupons would only allow the product value to be reinbursed back to Tescos ONCE.

    Tantamount to stealing really.

Whether Tescos permits whatever, allows whatever, rights rules about whatever, do not train staff properly, didn't think about coupon abuse when they designed the self service tills.....blah, blah, is irrelevant - you can only use a coupon once....surely?
  • It's because you are not fully aware of the Tesco Coupon policy. What you say does seem like common sense, but if you have a read of their policy I'm sure it'll become clearer and you'll see it's not fraud.

    I'll give you an example:

    - Tesco sell 200 Mitchum deodarants in a week
    - They are unlikely to receive 200 coupons for this product, as many customers buy the product without using coupons
    - Therefore, Tesco can afford to let you use that coupon for which ever product you like
    - The policy(guidelines) from Head Office states that you can pay for ALL your shopping using the coupons if they are ALL different and in date

So therefore the customer gains, Tesco gains, but the manufacturer looses a little.

Not sure if I mentioned earlier on in the thread, but in the past I have checked the policy with my local store, and the Customer Service Manager agreed that is also the Store Policy, but the CS Manager has changed since.

Hope that makes a little more sense. But the problem is when the coupons the customers present are 'out of date' and 'photocopied' so Tesco cannot claim back their money.

That is what I think has happened to me. They seem to be blaming a 'Coupon Issue' they have had directly on me.

  • You have got it slightly wrong!!

I pop the coupons into the little slot after I have scanned them, otherwise I agree it would be similar to stealing....

The coupons I print say, one per transaction, so I print a new one every time, and as the policy states and my local Tesco's ageed, I can use as many as I like as long as they are all different.

But they had a problem last time I used two, and I have been banned, without a reason being given

  • An extremely valid point. Unfortunately they aren't here to defend themselves, but I have not got a problem with any of the Checkout Staff themself, only disappointed at the failings of the Security and Management team. I was calm and polite throughout the occasions I have spoken to them

But, the least they could give me, was a reason.

  • Thanks for understanding my points!

That's exactly what I am getting at. Manners cost nothing, so not sure why I was treated in the way I was....

I was basically just talking to one of the Security Guards, and then before I knew it, had 3 around me and a manager.

I understand they are just doing their job, and even shook his hand at the end even though we disagreed, and even though he refused to give me a reason.

I can't get more fairer than that?

  • Thank you, I see your a fellow Couponer as well

Not sure why it's such a batte to prove our innocence. I bet half the people who have left negative and some really harsh comments, will end up be printing them next week... thanks for your comments

I think some of the post on here are quite harsh, poster was only looking for some advice!!

I use coupons in Tesco and Asda (until they stop it) every week. I also use the same coupons every week (1 of each as their guided policy states) I've been doing this for approx 4 months and I have never had an issue.

I do not copy coupons that come from couponnet but I use multiples of Mitchum, Ryvita, Castello etc.

Yes I've been very lucky with my local as I seem to be the only 1 who uses coupons without purchasing the product!!

I hope the poster does get an explanation as to why this has happened as I believe they should. It's a bit harsh if Tesco do class it as coupon abuse, just explain!!

Be nice that's what this forum is all about.

Actually read the terms and conditions they can remove points and ban you from the scheme

    NEXT

I think you will find on both occasions TAXIPHIl has claimed back the 4x value of his points when managers have banned and zeroed his points. YOUR company backed down.. giving him pure CASH for his points..

So yes they can remove points and ban you from the scheme, but legally you can take them to court.... get the points back as cash and all legal fees covered by tesco..... and.. then get a new temporary card and start again.

Sorry but you seem to think you know it all... but fact is greater than that...

Also Coupon Abuse isn't paying X% of your total with MOCS... wheres the policy? wheres the terms and conditions then stating that? seen as you love mentioning T+Cs...

If you wanna get technical I could get tesco sued every time they accepted my 50p coupon for another product... because it consitues fraud at the basic level.. 50p off Bread... for 50p off anything. Tesco will claim the 50p back +handling from the bread manufacturer when that 50p wasnt used against the bread in the first place.

So dont get all higher than tho it wont work.

    But then again Im biased.

OP: Most likely its they dont like internet coupons... (as this is their choice) and you continued to use the 2 coupon limit on self service.. rather than go to a mannged till. If a SA takes all coupons you offer then you are doign nothing wrong, but using SS is different IMO.
