If your extension is wired as above 2 - Blue/White and 5 -White/Blue simply connect the same at the master and leave terminal 3 with no connection.
If I can figure out which of the 3 extension wires going into the back of the faceplate is the one I want I can do this.
However what I can't understand is why the 1st extension works when 2 and 5 obviously seem transposed and yet the 2 following on from this work with no filter but don't work with a filter. Can someone explain why this is?0 -

If, for example, you have white/blue connected to it, then blue/white is your bell wire and this should be connected to terminal 3 (rather than any other terminal) when that cable reaches the first extension socket. However what I can't understand is why the 1st extension works when 2 and 5 obviously seem transposed and yet the 2 following on from this work with no filter but don't work with a filter. If you connected on correctly (that is you put the colours on the correct terminals), you may have a problem because at the other end it is wrong. Where you have two or more cables coming into any one socket (be it the master or an extension) then you don't know which cable goes to which other socket.
You did say above that orange/white was connected to terminal 5. Maybe when this was done it was connected to terminal 5 at the other end, which would make the wiring right, albeit the colours of each wire are not the standard.
From what I can see, you can spend hours trying to work out which wire needs swapping where, or you can go through them all and make sure that they use the standard coloured wires for each terminal.0 -
It's the one on terminal 3. Terminal 3 on the face plate of the master socket is the bell wire connection, full stop.
I know it's the one on terminal 3. However as there are 3 extensions coming back to the master socket, there are 3 wires on terminal 3 - 2 blue/white and one green. I know these are the bell wires according to how it's connected.
What I meant was that I did not know which of the 2 blue/white wires was the one going to the extension which has got crossed over. If, for example, you have white/blue connected to it, then blue/white is your bell wire and this should be connected to terminal 3 (rather than any other terminal) when that cable reaches the first extension socket.
Three of my extensions are not daisy-chained. They all come back to the master socket. I know this is not the normal way to do it but they were done 22 years ago before the advent of the internet to help. You would be best advised to remove each of your sockets and have a look at which coloured wires go to each terminal. You may find that one of them is wrong.
I know which one is wrong as I wired it a couple of weeks ago. I followed the correct wiring colours not realising the master socket was wrong.
Anyway I decided to go back to my extension socket and rewire it according to how my master is wired and swapped over terminals 5 and 3. This means that everything now works, albeit with the wrong colours. However I will make a note so that I remember exactly what went where. This seemed easier than going around 6 extension sockets plus the master.
I have now removed my bell wire connection from the master socket and increased my speed by around 2Mb so all seems well.
I just have one problem - although I'm not entirely sure it is a problem at my end.
I have 2 Sky boxes so they need to be connected to the phone line. I have tested both sockets and can dial in and out with phones connected to them. Phones ring as they should do.
Both Sky boxes confirm that the telephone is connected when going into System details. However when trying to connect to Sky Customer Services through the box, it dials out and then says the connection was interrupted and to check the phone line is connected. I have tried this with and without filters ( when the modem was not plugged into the line) and the same thing happens.
Is this a problem at my end or is it Sky's end?0 -

It makes no difference if the modem is connected or not!
Your line is ADSL enabled and filters now have to be used with any device connected to the line.
If you can make and receive calls from these extensions than the problem is not at your end is it! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Someone told me it did.
I have had (and still have at the moment ) cable BB for the last 10 years. I'm finding my way around adsl at the moment so go easy on me please.Your line is ADSL enabled and filters now have to be used with any device connected to the line.
They all have.If you can make and receive calls from these extensions than the problem is not at your end is it!
One would imagine not. However my boxes could dial out previously, now they can't. It may of course be coincidence but that's what I'm trying to find out.0 -

If you're not sure which cable goes to which extension socket, then you could test by removing all but one cable and seeing which socket or socket is/are live. I assume you've got a krone tool and know how to use it so you can reattach them.It makes no difference if the modem is connected or not!

So it's OK to test it without filters, providing there is no ADSL modem attached to the line. Obviously in practice they are left connected/installed all the time.0 -
If there is no modem connected to the line, then the filters don't perform any function. The filters are needed when the modem is connected and switched on.

Sorry but that is absolute rubbish!
The high frequency ADSL signal is sent down the line from the exchange and the modem/router has nothing to do with that!

I thought that there was nothing on the line and that it was the modem that initiates by sending a signal, requesting the exchange end to respond. No response would be forthcoming if it wasn't an ADSL enabled line. So I am wrong then? :embarasse0 -
Sounds like you could do to label each one up for future reference. If other sockets daisy chain off one of those three sockets that are directly connected to the master, then maybe a diagram of the wiring would be useful.
I think each one does have a label when I looked into the master socket. However it was awkward to see into it properly as everything was squeezed in and I didn't want to pull too hard and cause other problems.
However I will make up a little diagram for future reference as I have more or less figured out what goes where. Of course if the internet had been around 22 years ago when my late husband first wired these up it would have been a great help.If you're not sure which cable goes to which extension socket, then you could test by removing all but one cable and seeing which socket or socket is/are live. Yes I have gor a krone tool and have managed to use it so far - I'm a wee bit awkward with it but getting there.
As to my Sky box issue - I have reconnected one of the boxes to my Virgin phone line. First of all I got a Not Connected problem as I had not reconnected the bell wire at the Virgin master socket. So realising that I apparently needed it I reattached it.
I get the same disconnection problem with my Virgin line so I'm assuming it's Sky's problem and not mine as obviously my Virgin line does not have adsl.0 -

If that's the case how come I had no problems yesterday when my line was activated but I did not get around to putting all the micro filters on today?0
