  • very nice to know i am not alone in suffering this horrible problem. i am very low at the moment as my partner of 3 years walked out on me last night. just packed up his stuff, told me he didnt love me and left. we hadnt been arguing or anything, not a word of warning. got a really big shock. i cant help but wonder the reason he doesnt love me if because i am ill, cant do much, am a bit boring cos i cant go out much or anything, and he has to look after me. im hardly a vibrant loveable dutiful partner i suppose. so now its just me and the cat. not a good day.
Really sorry to read this Roxsi. I'd offer you a gently hug, but can't find one at the moment.

Sorry, don't know what else to say.

I have prescription co-codamol - although I have tried not taking them unless I have to, I have found that it is better/more effective to take them continuously rather than wait until you are in agony.

I have Pregabalin (for neuropathic pain) highest dose (600g a day) which is really effective and when I take the 200g at night together with the co-codamol, it eases my pain enough to lie in bed and get some sleep. These are so helpful. When I get up in the morning and can hardly move with pain, a while after taking these I can feel the relief!

I have Baclofen which helps relax muscles, relieves muscle spasms and improves mobility.

I also have stomach problems and take Maxolon and Lanzoprazole.

I find that the Baclofen is the only thing that helps with the sensations I get with the arachnoiditis and that's the thing that comes close to driving me completely batty (if I'm not there already) :rotfl:. I wish I could have got away with Pre-gabalin or Gabapentin as quite a few of my friends really rate these.

As for the fibro & weather, I have a few... I damaged my knee in my teens and that's never happy when the temp starts dropping, then there's the wrists (which is v similar to carpal tunnel syndrome -only I wasn't doing anything repetitive so they called it tendonitis til fibro got mentioned years later ) and I end up with tubagrips on my wrists to keep them warm (and I think it's supposed to improve circulation in them somehow).

I think I may've gone off on a tangent now... but while I'm out there somewhere - does/has anyone else suffered from the kind of shin splints type pains? I've always had this recurring - like a massively awful bout of "growing pains" in my legs that I used to describe as cramp in my bones. At first they thought it was just growing pains, but it had me rolling round the floor in agony even in my teens. Mum took me to the GP who said it was likely cramping caused by low salt in my diet (yeah right! ;)) and low quinine - so I was forced to drink bitter lemon (bleurgh!). Looking back I'm almost certain it's all to do with the fibro as I still get it now. My GP gave me loads of crepe bandages at the time to wrap around my legs when they were painful - to aid circulation and keep them warmer - which does actually help to a point. Maybe someone will find that little nugget helpful...? :o

I have the neoprene wrist splints with the metal inserts. This was partly due to RSI and partly because like someone else mentioned (forgive the brain fog) the rheumatologist thought I had carpal tunnel - but it turns out that the nerves going down my arms are trapped in my neck. I can sympathise with the 'growing pains' LOL my shins are very painful and I can't bear anyone to touch them, a lot of the time it feels like I have been scalded too.
Erm... I'm probably a bit of a fraud in this thread 'cos I don't actually have Fybromyalgia. For many years it was thought that I had ME, but I've since been told that it doesn't present with abnormal blood tests. It has been suggested that I might have SLE, but the tests aren't conclusive. What doctors won't admit is that I probably have a combination of organo phosphate poisoning and some neurological damge from the brain haemorrhage. One of my blood tests show positive for anti-bodies that normally show up after a transplant (rejection), but as the only foreign object in my body are the coils in my brain...

Yes, Unity - I'm like a bluddy barometer - every time the air pressure starts changing my whole body throbs like I've got an all over toothache. When the air pressure is high I end up with a raging headache and when it's cold my joints ache like hell.

Apart from that, I hardly notice the weather.:p

I've spoken to a number of people who say it is closely related to barometric pressure. You are anything but a fraud - you are simply awaiting a diagnosis. I'm surprised they say fibro doesn't present with abnormal bloods since there was a recognised test that showed people with fibro often have incorrectly formed platelets in the blood. I remember someone having this test done privately when I was in hospital once for procaine infusions. The only reason I remember is that the blood had to be sent to New Zealand for the test!

I enjoyed getting out to see Quantum of Solace - although I thought it wasn't as good as Casino Royale. I almost fell asleep a few times, but that is me, not the film :rotfl:.

Hi hope everyone is well ,i hate this time of year as back really plays up and the raynaulds takes over even been known to wear gloves when indoors with the heating on !! This forum is a great place to come to share advice and talk to people in similar situations i am so pleased to have found this site .I had my consultants app this morning (results of MRI) he found i have a prolapsed disc in lower back which was what my gp thought it was ,he has told me that i need to have a small operation to remove disc so its eases off the nerve which is causing the pain he told me it wont cure the pain from fibro which i knew but would help me to function again as i cant do anything at the moment which is hard with 2 kids (7yrs + 14 months)husband has to do everything !!!!! feel a bit scared of operation but hopefully will improve my quality of life take care claire x x

so we are both in the same boat-thought your symptoms were same as mine Tatty when you first posted!Knowing whats wrong can help you manage better l always think-have had breast cancer and as soon as back got worse convinced myself l had bone secondaries so a prolapsed disc was a relief by comparison.
:j this money saving is such fun:T

I'm so very sorry to hear this Roxsi - it isn't you, you can't help feeling the way you do, so don't put yourself down. A similar thing happened to a close friend of mine some years ago - yet a friend of hers who is also in a wheelchair met a very kind man and got married for the first time this year!

It's an awful shock for you - but things will get better again, at least you have everyone here to talk to.

Hiya to Roxsi and fluffybishop

Sorry to hear about your troubles Roxsi. Sounds like a pretty appalling time and thing to do. _pale_ I know us saying it probably won't make much difference but please don't keep telling you that it's your fault or cos you're ill. There are brilliant people out there that couldn't care less if you were well or not - and you'll be much better off with them than with the git that left you! Chin up, see it as a good thing for your future that hurts while it's raw... if you can?

    Keep your chin up. :o
