  • the £10 bonus, i get a letter every year saying it will be paid in on whatever date.

never had a cold weather payment, but apparently it just goes automatically into your bank account if the weather has dropped below 0 for 7 days. not heard of them writing to tell you its happening.

getting dla gets you the xmas bonus, as do some other benefits. cold weather payments are more picky and dla does not qualify you alone, must get other benefits too at which point i get confuzzled.

good luck with the dla claim optikal

    Ok this might be confusing!...

Thanks to all for good house wishes...we have to hope/pray/cross some more fingers for longer cos we've made our decision (that we want the house from yesterday) but the whole benefits thing may go against us, as landlords aren't particularly trusting of tenants on benefits...particularly housing bens. But as OH won't actually be living there til Sept (when we get MARRIED (woo!!);)) we can't put him on the lease from the beginning or I'll lose my housing&council tax bens unfairly. I wouldn't mind the faff so much if I was actually trying to swindle the system, but we're not!! So now I'm worried that it's lose the benefits or lose the house...although I think pretty much any house would have the same prob atm. :( The letting agents have agreed to put the idea of having it in my name (on the basis that my bens combined do cover the rent...just!) and have a gaurantor til what will be DH then moves in...*sigh* They were supposed to be ringing me back with the landlady's decision tonight...but guess what...? No call :( What a caffuffle.

As for the £10 xmas bonus, I don't recall receiving one...? As for the Cold Weather Payment I'm guessing it's only people in receipt of Winter Fuel Payments...which I'm not, cos I'm too young to be eligible (from what I've gathered, which could of course be wrong?).

What else was there...? Hi to...Optikal (I think) and good luck with the DLA application :)
Great news s/e on the application you were granted...phewf! :)
Cwta I hope your application goes ok and you don't get too bogged down with it.
    Hi to everyone else!

I feel lousy, doc has granted me a prescription for antibiotics without seeing him (contrary to receptionists beliefs...grrr!) as I think I have an ear infection and/or poss chest infection/sinusitis. I have an appointment (like gold dust some days:rolleyes:) on monday so will get checked over than. Migrainous headaches are continuous on a daily basis. The only painkillers I have left to take are Tramadol and I don't wanna take themtil I've picked up OH in case I'm not fit to drive and go spacey. *sigh* Really hoping we hear good news about the house in the morning, it will be a huge relief to have it sorted, esp before OH starts FT job on monday. Which we still need to find him a car for... Oh and MIL2B went into hospital again today after her diabetes doctor was unhappy at her regular appointment. She had a psoas abcess (if that means anything to anyone..?) the beginning of last year (which was v nasty!) and from her blood sugars and various pains, she was a bit worried that it may be coming back. The doc in the ER seemed to think it could be gallbladder related... Who knows?

    So a bit hectic here!

bz i really hope you get the house, i will be thinking of you tomorrow and fingers crossed they ring early and dont keep you hanging on :) make sure you dont wear yourself out with everything and i hope that your mil2b is ok :( my fil is diabetic and his insulin is always being changed at the mo as he has terrible hypos and gets very aggressive but they have said its his age as hes 79!
the cold weather payments are just for people on benefits as far as i can tell... they always confuse me about benefits, I actually would be better off not working as then i wouldnt have to pay for all my prescriptions and dentist etc, we were ok til this resession hit and dh just isnt making any money now as he has his own business and there seems to be very little help when you DONT want benefits... ahh well tell me to shut up about it or i may be climbing on the soap box i keep tucked away :rotfl:

auntie axe the big snap has finished :( im so glad i didnt discover it til january though as i may have been glued to the laptop

optikal good luck to you and your wife with the claim :) we are a friendly bunch on here if she wants to come and chat or just even sound off and complain as we do regularly ;)

  • I am getting heartily sick of disturbed nights. We're all used the the pain wake ups, but these hot flushes on top mean I'm being woken 10 or 11 times a night and it's really no fun at all.

Am wary of taking any herbal type remedies for this on top of prescriptions, but am not convinced it's something worthwhile going to the doctor for.

Does anyone have any experience of this and know ways of alleviating this? I just feel sticky and horrible the whole time.

I hope BZ has heard good news about the house this morning.

I've had another disaster  Theres a stain on my beige carpet and Im sick of asking DH to use the carpet cleaner on it, so as it's only small I thought I'd have a go this morning, I've thoroughly soaked the patch of carpet but the cleaner isn't sucking up the dirty water at all, I've checked its clean and not blocked and it seems fine, so now as I got carried away I am left with a big wet patch ont he carpet right by the hall door when you walk into the lounge. Also I now realise it was a bit too much for me and Im exhausted and my arms are killing me, why do I keep doing these stupid things :rotfl:

Im hoping to visit my Dad in a couple of hours, he's in his 4th week of Chemo and sounds ok on the phone, becuase Ive had the flu I havnt been able to visit him since before xmas so Im resting up now and hoping Ill be able to drive to his which is under 15 mins away so I should be ok.
Sorry if I've waffled on a bit, heads all over the place as usual

  • I do hope your Dadis doing OK suep. They all say that Chemo isn't as aggressive in terms of side effects as it used to be, but some of them can still be quite nasty. The metallic taste in the mouth was the one I found the most offputting.
If you can let me know what chemo he's on - including chemo tablets if he has them, I'll search out that info I mentioned to you ages ago about managing the side effects.
Each type of chemo can be quite different, so if you're able to give me the specific, it'll be much easier.
Hugs to you and your family.
