You're feeling perky BZ! You made me larff.
I found my glasses (under the sofa) and put on latex gloves to count the coins so ner
For once, I am actually fighting sleep! And need to get up early(ish) in the morning. Am sat propped up on the sofa with the halogen heater on, blankie over my legs, foot on a stool and the cat lying full length down my legs. Halogen heater is pointed at her natch!
If my bum wasn't aching, I would almost be too comfy to move.
Sorry to leave you alone in the thread, but am fading fast, Don't make too much of a mess eh?
You've had a busy week so far, have a relax.
p.s. heard something about an electric veg peeler the other day. I don't tend to use much veg and am not a great fan of potatoes, but it's a gadget right? And I do so lurve gadgets.
Sleep safe and well.

Dunno about perky but what can I say, I had forum-detox shakes and needed a boostCwta wrote:For once, I am actually fighting sleep! And need to get up early(ish) in the morning. Good grief I am cold, I guess it is time to put the heating on, eh....? Shame it's all the way up the bluddy steep terraced stairs. *Sigh* (You've no idea how much I'm looking forward to moving into the [STRIKE]marital home[/STRIKE] bungalow!)"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
morning everyone,
good luck with the lunch today careful
i think i may have had a battery operated peeler once, it was rubbish and i had less control of it compared to a normal peeler and my fingers kept being in the way.
gadgets however are indeed wonderful things.0 -
Thank you purplecatlover! Lunch wll be tense, but I'll get over it.
I lurve gadgets, spesh electronic ones. I can see stereo systems etc and think "Oooooh, sexy!".
I'm afraid it's partly an inherited thing.
Arguing neighbours woke me up early today, but from the middle of a dream where I was working at a place where everyone hated me. Not an anxiety dream at all then!
Heard a very silly joke:
Cowboy walks into a German Car dealership and says "Howdee". (Audi) *grin*.

Although T/S is a named driver on my insurance, he can't drive my car unless I'm in it with him.
Hi S/E and BZ,
I don't know if things have changed, but I checked on this in the early 90's when I got my DLA and the free road fund licence form arrived. We only had the one car and DH used it for work (permanent nights). I was told not to worry and that he could use the car, with the free tax disc, as they considered I was benefiting from him working.
I don't know if this is the same if the disabled person's designated driver lives at a different address, or even as I say if the rules have changed. Since DH had to give up work to become my carer it hasn't been a question I've had to consider.
Best wishes,
Unity

Obviously, I don't know how many checks are made on drivers with tax exemption, but knowing my luck if I tried it I'd get caught. I'm the one who regularly gets picked out for 'random checks' on whether I'm fraudulently claiming benefits.s/e0 -
Funny how these random checks doon't seem randon at all.
I had to giggle this morning as I woke up and found a puddle of wee on the bathroom floor. I can't even blame the cat - it was me!
The loo seat is loose, in fact you go for a little ride everytime you sit down (it's the little things that give me pleasure) and it must have slipped so it was hanging over the front of the loo basin when I got up to pee in the night and I've peed through the gap onto the floor. :rotfl:
Cue on hands and knees with lots of kitchen towels etc. Then couldn't get up again. :rotfl: :rolleyes:I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

Wanna f'rinstance?
After I thought I'd recovered from the brain haemorrhage, I went to sign on at the job centre in preparation for returning to work. I was told that if I restricted the type of work and hours that I was prepared to work, my benefits would be stopped. Not a bluddy word was said about claiming DLA, Working Tax Credit or anything else. If I'd had that information 4, 5 years ago, I very likely wouldn't be in the state I'm in now.
When I'm well enough, I intend to offer my services to the CAB - I've gained a huge amount of information over the years (plus I've worked in a couple of places that have given me insight into how certain parts of the caring sectors work), and if I can prevent someone having to go through what I've been through in the past, I'm bluddy well going to do it.
If I were cynical I would suspect a conspiracy theory where benefits are concerned - but I suspect it is more c*ck-up than conspiracy. I'll second S/E's offer of help as I too have run the gauntlet of 'misinformation'. When I got my DLA I'd just completed my degree and telephoned the BA to ask about Incapacity Benefit. I was told I didn't qualify as I only had Student NI credits. I asked if there were any non-contributions based benefits I could claim and was told "No".
It was some years later when I was in hospital that a fellow patient told me I should be getting Severe Disablement Allowance. I wrote to the BA and to cut a long story short I had to make a legal deposition to a senior advisor at the local office. Luckily my DH had been with me when I called the BA initially and since the phone I was using was hands free and on speaker - he heard both sides of the conversation.
I don't know whether they keep recordings of telephone queries, or whether the particular person I spoke to had given the wrong information out to a number of people - but I got my SDA backdated to thirteen weeks after my DLA started - which was quite a tidy sum.
That's my f'rinstance :rotfl:- although I haven't always been so fortunate. One of the two industrial accidents I had left me with a percentage disability which meant I should have received Reduced Earnings Allowance - but I had not known this. It was some twenty years before I found out and what is worse - just after the rules changed on the back-dating of benefits (it used to be that the benefit was back-dated to the qualifying date) so instead of twenty-odd years back-dating - I got three months.
If I can help anyone, please just ask. I would say never give up, if you know in your heart of hearts you are entitled and don't be afraid to go to the top. I involved my MP and the Secretary of State during one benefits wrangle and I'm sure it helped.
Love,
Unity

Thank you Unity. I'm just steeling myself to finally claim DLA. Can I ask a quick question, are the Mobility and care section seperate? So you, in theory, could qualify for say the lower rate in each and get two payments of the £17 odd or would you just get the one?I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0

I just wanted to say a quick 'Thanks' to everyone who replied to my good news post yesterday.
For years I have always been optimistic - thinking that it's just as likely I'd inherit my dad's good genes as my mum's duff ones and I am sure this has sometimes been perceived by the medics as blindness to the implications of the medical history. At last I feel somewhat vindicated:T - although this is tempered by knowing that it probably just means the genetic link is simply one that hasn't been discovered yet. However research is progressing at an incredible rate and we were told yesterday they should have more answers within another decade.
I haven't come down off my cloud yet mentally - although my body feels as if if has been through an old-fashioned mangle. I swear that stress is the worst thing for the dreaded fibro.
It really did mean a lot to me that everyone here was rooting for me and I'm quite sure that it helped.
So thanks again.
Love,
Unity
