  • Yellowrock, yes do mention it to your GP. Always better to mention new symptoms, especially if you are a tad concerned about them.
And being able to vent is part of what this board is about, so let it out.
Horrible hours to work; no wonder you get tired.

purplecatlover why would it be taking advantage having a motabilty car if you dont need adaptations?? i dont need any but my car is my lifeline for getting out of the house and to anywhere as i wouldnt manage to walk that far and even if i could id be exhausted when i got there? and having a brand new car means i know its reliable and easy to drive? i pay for it with the dla so i dont feel im taking advantage of anyone

i think its just me, i feel guilty for even claiming dla in the first place and im very good at finding reasons to be guilty for things, even things i would tell other people not to feel guilty about.

with the motability car i get the tax and insurance paid so for me its the best option with the money, i know i might not aways be entitled to it but im happy to have a new car whilst i can [and im always very truthful on my application which i think is why i never get any care even though i do need some help]
Ok - with the Motability scheme, just to be super clear, the way I understand it is:
You need to get the higher level of mobility. You sign up to the Motability scheme and instead of the money for the mobility coming to you it goes straight to them. The car you chose affects whether it's fully covered by the mobility payments or whether you need to pay money towards it - either by paying an upfront lump sump, or monthly payments, or a combination of both. The Motability scheme is essentially a lease hire scheme - although with the optional adaptations to the vehicle that you may require. If you don't need any adaptions to the vehicle it may be as easy/cheaper to check out other lease hire schemes before signing up. With the Motability scheme the tax disc is automatically sent out to you when/just before it's due, the insurance is included, as are any repairs - including tyres when they wear or even if you roll over a nail, you just go to a Motability dealer (usually the main dealer for car repairs and kwik fit for tyres).

It's worth noting, however, that the tax disc should be free for whatever car the person getting higher rate of mobility uses most (whether they drive it or not).

It was alright... I spose
The pasta bake went down a storm with 10 (nearly 11)yr old nephew but 5yr old niece tried pushing it all to the edge of the bowl and pretending she was full. Filled a space and proud of myself for cooking, for the kids as well as myself. I have a bit of a bugbear about how much junk they eat so I didn't really wanna add to the tally, iyswim.

Sister has now returned home and was unimpressed with me parking on the grass outside (opps - but BIL wasn't bothered last night:rolleyes:) but impressed that I'd cooked for them :D

Never feel guilty for taking advantage of the motability scheme. Trust me, the money they get, between the bens money and your money more than makes up for everything! I think it's a bit of a rip-joint in some senses...they get a lot of money for a car you only keep for 3 years and then have nothing to show for it. That's what puts me off. Plus you're not accruing any no claims discount while you're driving what is essentially a fleet car.

Of course you're good at guilt! You're a woman! We are experts at guilt. DLA is there for a reason, and if you don't qualify, you don't get it. You qualify.
I know that's taking it back to its simplest priciples (great fan of Marcus Aurelius - take things back to their simplest principle "What is it of itself"), but I hope it helps stop you feeling guilty. Can you tell I did Philosophy at Uni? :D

Well done BZ for cooking - you seem to have been doing it every night for a while. Don't overtire yourself. The videos sound like my worst nightmares.
Way above my itellectual capacity :D

I have a fund evening tonight *sigh* opening change box and counting all coins out into bags for banking to see how much I can spend at Xmas. Booooring

  • i only get lr mobility so didnt qualify for it anyway, i wasnt sure if it was lease or not, i know my mum keeps saying how its great her cousin gets a new car every 3 years, but she sells the 3 year old car to extended family members (without the need for dla) for almost as much as a new car costs and i always thought that was a bit much for them to be asking for if you want to keep the same car rather than exchange it.

thanks careful, its really well and truly programmed in me, sometimes i need reminding of the basics :) good luck with the counting.

bz glad the pasta bake was enjoyed, at least by one kid.

im glad the results were good unity.

That's not strictly true. You're only eligible for a tax exemption if the car is used soley for the benefit of the recipient of the DLA. So if you had a family/partner who also used the car for their own purposes, you wouldn't be eligible for the tax exemption.

Although T/S is a named driver on my insurance, he can't drive my car unless I'm in it with him.

  • thanks to you all for the replies, Raeh - I didnt think to look at it that way, muscle spasms, heart - muscle, makes sense. I did describe it to my husband as feeling like a twitchy nerve type feeling - like the ones you get in legs etc, so maybe it is. Will make a routine appt to see gp and mention then.
  • OK, who hid my glasses? This is getting beyond a joke. Are you lot sneaking in when I'm not looking and moving things? Or maybe it's Santa's elves?

Being "one of us" glasses aren't simple as one eye is short-sighted and one long-sighted. So one set for reading and one for driving and TV.

Have to meet Dad for lunch tomorrow for the first time since our big bust up, so that's gonna be nice and relaxing (not).
Can you tell I'm trying to put off the counting? It is boring and makes my hands smell funny!
But if I do it in bits, my hands won't hurt. Oh gawd, here I go.
