  • From the look of the bottle, is it similar to worcestershire sauce? Peppery?
For stews, cottage pie etc I absolutely swear by mushroom ketchup. Weird sounding, I know, but it adds a certain va va voom.

We end up talking about some pretty random things here :rotfl:

Raeh, did the doc sign you off for a while? Sorry to bang on about it, but I can only imagine how hard it is on a normal day (for you) to cope with work, let alone with the added extras.

Having just sneezed all over laptop, I've just realised that I've missed flu jab this year.
I must admit, I have ummed and ahed about it this year as, although I don't come into contact with many people who may be affected by flu, the toll it could take on my health could be dire. I did have the pneumonia jab a couple of years ago.
Do I risk it? Do you lovely people have it?
Will pop back before bed for me, but hope you all have sweet dreams and wake refreshed.

Had no idea co-codamol could be bought ove the counter - perhaps it's the soluble one. I am no good at all with bad tasting things. Unfortunately, that includes most of my cooking.
after you all talking about the Tramadol, took some today for my afternoon headaches and, for me, it's not as effective as the Diclofenac. I still get confused what I can take with what as I have is, Diclofenal, co-codamol, co-dydramol, paracetamol, tramadol. The only ones I tend to double up in the co-codamol and diclofenac.

Does anyone mourn for co-praxamol? It was so much more effective than anything else I've come across. Shame it had to be taken from the market.

It hasn't been mentioned, but is anyone else on Steroids? I suspect not, but would love to know.

Oh why when I've done some clearing and chucking out does the place look more of a mess that if I had left well alone?
S/e - I may be a contortionist - you're not to know whether I ran away to join a circus. No BZ, not as the bearded lady *grin*

Unfortunately I was one of those who couldn't take Co-Proxamol, I had terrible chest pains after taking just one dose. Just to be sure it was them, I left them alone for a month and then took another dose - same thing happened. This was years ago and my then GP said he had never heard of anyone having this particular side-effect  - yet some years later it's off the market - made me wonder a bit.

As to steroids - I was given Prednisolone in a drip for the anaphylactic shock when I had Procaine infusions and my doc prescribed a bottle in tablet form to carry with me in case I ever got the same thing again. Other than that I occasionally have steroid joint injections, but that's it.

Off to bed so I can get sorted in time for the pain clinic tomorrow.

    Night all

Hi guys, just popped in to say that I've not forgotten you all but had an appointment this afternoon (which I wasn't expecting to be able to go to as OH should've had work meeting but it was cancelled) and been out (shock horror!) tonight... should be out looking at cars tomorrow with big brother but hopefully I should manage a catch up before I go out in the morn (eek!).
Try not to miss me too much ;)

Well! That was a few pages to get through... let me take this in turn (cos you know how I like to add my tuppence worth :D)

Co-codamol: As far as I'm aware you can get 8/500 (codeine/paracetamol) over the counter, whether you want soluble or tablet form. You may be able to get 16/500 too but I know you definitely can't get 30/500 over the counter in any form - the doc has to prescribe this and it does make a definite difference compared to the lesser codeine proportions.

Thanks to all for the wonderings where I was (Cwta), wondering if I'd confused the crash with the wedding (Raeh)...again ;), and generally including me in your ramblings... I feel most included :D

Lamewolf: of course we missed you, don't be daft.

Steriods: I was prescribed some aaaaaaaages ago by GP trying to give me a boost and hated it, made me feel even worse - which he found most perculiar as most people would get the boost he was hoping for... I think this might've been back when I had the tonsillitis for 4 months come to think of it? Other than that I've been prescribed Prednisilone (sp?) post asthma attacks for both of them, as a 5 or 10 day course (why they can't just do one tablet instead of making you take 8 at a time I'll never fathom!) and I had a steriod inhaler as a "preventer" one to go with the salbutamol "reliever". Since I moaned (again) about the salbutamol doing the back of my throat in etc GP has given me a combi one that isn't a gas cartridge but one of those weird click suck things (iykwim, no rude thoughts please s/e...or you cwta!).

Meds organisation: Are you crazy? Organisation?! My meds stay in the bag I brought them home in until I take em out to use! They're either: under/infront of/at the side of the couch; or if someone comes round they might make it to the futon in the dining room (to get them out of the "reception room" living room) in the hopes that maybe one day they might make it upstairs; or they're somewhere lurking in my bedroom (depending on whether I'm required to take them at night the first night I've brought them home); or they're in the two massive tubs full of weird and wonderful back stocks of various meds and supplements that I have in my laundry room (which, don't ask why, is upstairs ); or (yet again) they're in my bathroom built in cupboard/in the chest of drawers within.
    Now do you feel disorganised??
Anything in current use, or danger of current use (like pain meds) are in singular strips in my handbag or anything bulkier (like the tubagrips I use when I get that carpal tunnel pain) stays in my rucksack - which transports my jimjams and favourite teddy (no laughing please! Not even on the back row s/e!!) etc to and from between mine and OHs house.
Oh, and I always try to keep an emergency stock of anything essential in the car and at OHs.
Answered your Q or a bit too much info? :P

Cwta: Ref flu jab - I say go for it. What've you got to lose? OH came down with man flu about a week or so after I'd had it and luckily when he passed it on to me it stayed as "just" a fibro-ites experience of a cold (long and drawn out with more sinus pain etc than there should be). If you've never had an adverse reaction to the jab before what have you got to lose? A sore arm for a couple of hours maybe? It was the pneumonnia (sp?) jab that was more painful for me... can't even tell you!!

Lightening process: Don't even get me started! Dad saw or heard something about 6 months ago, probably, now about it and rang up to tell me about it. The info about it was less than encouraging and they didn't sell me on it. And considering the only centre I'm aware of it happening at is in like Bristol, or something, and costs like £300 (from memory) I decided that they could stick it. It was around the same time that Dad suggested that maybe all my sypmtoms are down to mercury poisoning from tooth fillings though, so you can imagine how impressed I wasn't at the time...

Hassie:  I suspect that your pain could well be IBS related as it's ringing faint bells, HOWEVER, I've never had that on a regular enough basis to make me concerned about it particularly, so if you are I would suggest getting it checked out. The stress thing is a massive factor with IBS esp. I would only need someone to mention work (when I was off with stress because of work - long story:rolleyes:) and my stomach etc would be agony!
As for your Q about faster acting tramadol - I would suggest getting a script from the GP for normal tramadol that you could keep in stock for when/if your husband forgets to take his slow release one? I would think they would suggest something like taking the normal tramadol straight away and then waiting X (potentially say 2.5hrs) hours before taking the slow release one...?
Re your internal scan - I had an awful time with a colonoscopy last year and GP etc was most interested by this as for a "normal" person it shouldn't've been painful really, esp with the amount of sedatives they ended up pumping into me in the end!

Tshirts: think it was Unity and Cwta discussing this... but I just wanted to say if you can't get hold of a ready made tshirt with what you wanted printed on, you could just go to your local print shop and they can usually do it for you. I got some made up for OH for his bday as it was far less expenny to buy plain tshirts and get them printed up by a local guy. (Think it worked out about £7 per tee?)

Well, that's all the topics I've remembered or can see by scrolling down so I think it's time to call it a night - esp as OH is snoring peacefully (sounds like an oxymoron to me, eh?) beside me as I type in the dark on my laptop in bed. (What can I say, I needed my fix!! ;))

I'm off out with my bro tomorrow car hunting so I will more than likely not be around for most of the day and then I'll be roped into going to BIL's house to sit on the sprogs for the day on Weds so I'll be around on here while they're at school, if I'm not too busy catching up on snoozing after having to get up at stupid o'clock to get them to school!! ;) I should be able to pop in at some time tomorrow... hopefully... (even if it is in the wee small hours :D)

  • you were up late zippy, hope your sleeping peacefully now.

my sister laughs at me, i am the only person she knows who brings a teddy bear on holiday, has spare teddy bears in case of accident (like when his head came off) and insists on a teddy bear keyring so i have a teddy bear it is acceptable to carry around outside.

hope the car hunting goes/went ok.

i buy paracetamol in 2 lots of 16 whenever im out and if anyone is with me i get them to buy some too, its only about 20p per pack and works out far cheaper than the prescription. I have never found a difference between the cheap basic ones and the more expensive?
As far as paracetamol is concerned, 1 paracetamol tablet is the same as any other paracetamol tablet. The same applies to aspirin. The differences start to show up when you get into the realms of 'mixes' as those that you buy over the counter aren't the same strength as those prescribed by a doctor. Where you will start to notice the difference is when you get panadol/paracetamol extra/plus. They have caffeine in them as well, which boosts the pain-killing effect of the main active ingredient. At one point I was on caffeine intravenously as a boost to the pain relief I was being given in hospital. I'd already worked out that taking my pills with black coffee made them more effective (if I took them with white tea, they didn't do a damned thing), but it was nice to have it confirmed that caffeine in itself can be used as a pain reliever in a small way.

Oh, and anti-histamines - even though Boots et al claim that their own brand are as good as the named brands they aren't. Not as effective and don't last as long as good old piriton.

I've never bothered (I've never been offered it), but as I have a hyperactive immune system it would have to be one hellova virus to get through and take hold. I've not actually 'gone down' with anything proper in about 6 years. If I do pick anything up, I tend to get an increase in symptoms, but nothing specific - just feel worse than usual for a while.

I have to be honest and say that I'd be reluctant to stress my immune system with any vaccinations that weren't 100% necessary. This was why I didn't have any that were offered through work - no-one could tell me what effect they'd have on me.

And I see that you and I are up disgustingly early, purplecatlover. I woke up from yet another weird and vivid dream around 3.00 am and I've not been able to get back to sleep. How about you?

  • dreams are such a pain when they interfere with sleep.

me i just woke up and gave up trying, 5 was an improvement on the last couple of days 3 or 4 am though...even if it was because i stayed up later last night.
