I had a friend who decided that it was worth paying for some homeopathy - homeopath diagnosed a 'mutated rubella virus' (you what?!) and a lactose intolerance and prescribed a load of stuff to be taken 4 times a day in large quantities of water. No mention of menopause which can also cause a lot of the symptoms she was suffering from.
Anyway, friend completed the course, and some time later declared herself cured and started pressuring me to do same.
The only trouble I have with this is one thing that she wouldn't address. There isn't a treatment in the world that kicks in and cures you 3 months after you stop taking it. Oh, and she wouldn't tell me how much it cost her either - another reason not to touch it with a 10' barge-pole.
Oh, she sounds like my Sister who finds things to "help" and when I say I don't think they're worth trying she says "Don't you want to get better?"
Thank you so much for the info on Paracetamol and codeine as seperate tabs. Brilliant idea and I'll ask for this when I next renew prescription.
Unity, My Dad's wife has a grandfather clock, so I could take a photo of that to use? Please, please don't make it a priority at all. I would rather you got rested and did what you want to do first and I'm certainly not holding you to the offer at all.

All so organised with your pills. The ony ones I put into organisers are my blood pressure meds as I tend to get confused with them.
Oh, whilst I remember, do any of you have any knowledge of leg ulcers? I've got a funny thing on the back of my right shin that I've been musing about and proding inquisitively for 10 days or so. I suspect it's not as it's only about the size of 5p piece (I've always been cheap!).
p.s. love that t-shirt Unity. I used to have one that said "Operates perfectly without male assistance".I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
Just to say that after seeing my GP last week he said he would write to the doc at the pain clinic.
Well, DH had just taken DS off to see the neurologist for unexplained headaches, I got a phone call to say there's a cancellation for 11.30 tomorrow! :T Neuro thinks DS has migraine, but is going to arrange a brain scan to be on the safe side.
So tomorrow it's the pain clinic and Wednesday it's the genetics clinic - what fun .
I keep dropping off in front of the screen, so must go for a nap.

They both started on something that was alleged to be able to cure people of all sorts of things (in 1 sister's case she was expecting an easy cure to diabetes, in the other, she's had a diagnosis of fibro, but it's possible she's got mild lupus) and this has been 'proven' to work. (Proven, as in they'd both been told by the 'peddlar' that others who'd taken it had recovered from Lupus and Diabetes.) I told them both I'd wait and see what effect it had on them. Both of them lost quite a bit of weight, which was bound to improve symptoms like joint pain, but neither of them was cured and as far as I know neither of them are still taking the stuff, although they won't admit it to me.
Trouble is, you're in a bit of a bind with this - they want to believe they're getting better. You (or one) can see that they're not - do you tell 'em they're deluding themselves or let it drag on and hope they'll see the light eventually?s/e0 -

Difficult one, s/e. I think I would stay tactfully quiet biting my tongue. If mind over matter is helping them deal with things, so be it. Trouble is you have to be there to pick up the pieces when it goes wrong again.
My annoyance at my Sis is compounded with the fact that she had the utmost sympathy for Mum (SLE) yet seems to think - well I'm not sure what - I'm a malingerer?
I was an absolute bloodie workaholic before I was ill, does she think I just had a complete personality change?
Sorry - rhetorical questions.
Didn't get round to making any food today again so it's flamin cheese on toast again tonight or take away pizza.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -

I do try to put my case tactfully and sympathetically, and I do understand the need to try things, but I do wish they'd afford me the same courtesy and accept that I've already tried all sorts of things, and I know there ain't no cure just around the corner.
As one of my 'friends' tried to tell me - 'only you know where to draw the line' - right, so how about letting me draw it?
Sorry, still a bit of a sore point with me.s/e0 -
Never any need to apologise for your feelings! These so called "people who mean well" are the biggest pain in the butt for those on the receiving end, because they are so set on their course of action or topic of conversation, that they won't listen to anyone elses pov. It's hard when it's a relative, to make a subject a no-go area, but sometimes I think that's what we have to do. I think I'm going to do that with Dad - say, I will not discuss x,y, z with you and if you bring up the subject I'm araid I will have to walk away - ykwim.
OK, I'll concede s/e that you aren't organised with your pills and you get a "must try harder, master". Egor stylee
Please don't snort tea. It's most unladylike  and I may have to knit you a bib.
The T-shirt was made up for me by one of those old-fashioned places that you used to find at the beach. I don't think that they exist anymore, but I bet crafty people could make themselves one or find somewhere on the net to do it.
I say a t-shirt recently that made me snigger - very non-pc - "Rehab is for quitters" :rotfl: :T .
Apart from the support, I find the laughter on this thread the most valuable thing. Gotta laugh, eh.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
p.s. Leg is barely sore, so I'm pretty sure its not an ulcer. I'll just keep an eye on it.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0
