  • i might as well let everybody know the stage im at, i recieved my account number and sort code, so as i have these details and dont want to delay things any further i went into my current account and did a transfer for 5K, im in no hurry to take the money out so will wait patiently for login details and pincode card reader etc ( even though i already have a natwest card reader ). I must admit the whole process has been a little teduis, however im only doing it for the club points which i will then transfer to airmiles...cant wait!

received yet another (3rd) letter today asking for a copy of my signature, ive sent 2, now a 3rd is on its way!!
Because they have not yet verified my signature, i am unable to view my account online, today i transferred from my nominated account (not tesco) by setting up a 'payment' using my account no & sort code, dont know when i will be able to 'see' it in my tesco account though!!

Unless it's a small amount and within the Faster Payments limit (and your bank supports FPs), the transfer payment will take 3 working days and goes by BACS.

The tesco website/organisation is the worst I've ever encountered and I've had enough - I'm closing both accounts despite the good interest rate.

I struggled opening the first account (can't remember name) and had all the delays, lost paper-work reported by others. I went for the new bonus-rate internet account and eventually got it opened.

So Icesave money arrived and I wanted to transfer it to the new Tesco account. After 3 hours of trying, speaking to about 20 CS's reps, I've lost the will to live and I'll just send it to NatWest instead.

First off I tried to send it to the internet account. No ! Spoke to CS (4 transfers) and was told the screen I was looking at didn't exist - transfer, transfer, yes it did - but I needed to set up the Barclays mandate (which existed on the old account) on the new account. Ok - did that - shock, says it'll need to be posted out and will take 22 days. Remember this is the identical mandate that already existed on the old account ie verified etc. So I think pain in the !!!!, but I'll transfer the money to the old lower interest account and transfer it over when it arrives - no the mandate has been wiped from the old account because I tried to set it up on the new account. So even though I didn't delete the old mandate, the Tesco system has wiped it from everything because I tried to set it up on the new account. Cue another call to CS (and numerous transfers) who tell me the old mandate is 'live' on their screen, even though it's 'pending, wait 22 days' on the online screen. Their solution isn't to explain why or to re-instate online - it's to suggest I transfer the funds via telephone banking. Maybe this would be ok, but bearing in mind I've been on the phone to about 20 people over the course of 3 hours, and I've been told some absolute rubbish by them - I think cut by losses. Just use a bank with a workable, 'do-what-it-says-on-the-tin' website.

Just for balance, although a complete nightmare to set-up, now I have it all working, it's been flawless, the site is secure, payments from my sending account have arrived in exactly 3 working days via BACS, and the card reader works perfectly.

However I've not yet had to ring them about anything...

In the interests of fairness, like you, although the 'old' account had me pulling my hair out when trying to get it up and running, once working, it was fine. And the frustration receded with time .........

The 'new' account was comparitively simple - I assumed because I was an existing customer. But on the same basis, as an existing customer, trying to set up a pre-verified mandate, verified for the 'old' account, and trying to apply it to the 'new' account, should have been as simple, without having to verify it all over again. That may be a glitch in their system. But then to compound that glitch, to wipe it from their online system totally and make you resubmit (with waiting time) is a further glitch.

Tbh I should have left things alone and done an inter-account transfer, but that's hindsight. If you have to do anything 'out of the loop' you have to work around their system, not with it. And you don't know the 'work around' problem until it's too late.

The CS are poor. They don't seem to understand their own products/services or know what to do. Online would transfer me to telephone who transfer you back. Online said web screens didn't exist when I was looking at them, that I had to phone Barclays (mandate) when I'm trying to transfer via the d/d already set up (when it was there). They even said they hadn't d/d facilities at one point. Telephone said they can't access the online screen, but the last person could/did but couldn't reinstate the online mandate. It's a shambles.

Bottom line is, when it works it works fine. But when there's a problem it becomes impossible.

what a surprise, no card still, a week and a couple days after the reader and pin arrived, (not to mention i ordered them all on the 7th) tesco may well be getting another call from me today

i know they have let me withdraw for over the phone (as a one off apparently(, but its more the priciple that if i need my money, i should be able to withdraw quickly, especially with the economy how it is, how do i know my job is safe, i may need access to my savings quickly.

Edit - just called tesco (again) advised the guy of the above and that i basically called last week and was told to wait for the card) he apologised and said the card itself should definatly have arrived so the best they can suggest is that he will order a new card for me (and a new pin as well) and i should get that within the next 7-10 days but advised if i havent got it this time next week to give them a ring incase

  • i,m glad to see i was not alone in experiencing the trauma of trying to open a "tescos internet saver a/c" !

applied to open a/c 3rd nov, and enclosing a £10 cheque.

15th nov letter arrived stating a/c open and stating a/c no and sort code.

unable to operate a/c online as you need a registration no which they will send out seperatley?

21st nov the letter with a reg no finally arrives.

go to log in, states not received your letter of signature verification, even though i sent this off weeks ago!!!!

basically tescos can now shove this a/c as far as i am concerned.

the competitive interest rate is dropping to 6% on 27/nov, and i am now up against the clock to deposit "cleared" funds in time to receive the bonus club card points that was another key feature of choosing this a/c.

i have never dealt with such a prolonged and stupid system to operate an online banking a/c

I have given up on this one as well. They have also 'lost' my signature letter. Where have they all gone? Surely this in itself is a security breach?
