I was getting a bit worried about you as your previous post was so positive. This latest post is much more reassuring! Know where you are coming from though. Hope you get your card soon.
My card was first thing to come followed by the pin 4 days later. And exactly 15 days after ordering it, the card reader was there on the door mat when I came in today. And was very easy to set up. So I'm up and running now.
:T
Can't work out what their thinking is on the interest rate. It's only going down on 27th November and then only by 0.5%. Will they try and reduce it again after that? Not sure what to expect. At least with faster payments can move it out should I need to. Still looking worth the effort to open the account - I think!MSE. Abandon hope all ye who enter here0 -
thanks, glad you have your reader has come.
i was wondering that too about the interest rate drop, the 0.5% one is the last interest rate cut that they have delayed passing on, so makes me wonder if a month down the line they may pass the 1.5 cut on as well, only time will tell i supposeMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
How are faster payments working for everyone? I'm trying to move money from my halifax to tesco net saver. I first tried a £1 test transfer. That was ok. The the other day I tried a big transfer - found out that halifax have a £500 faster payment limit so it tried to do as as BACs. Deleted that and tried 500 - FPS ok. Then did another 500 again ok. Gave up then as was running near to cut off time. Today tried to do that same thing again and fell back to BACs.
So my experience of FP halifax -> tesco is that is only rarely works. Seems like 50% it falls back to BACs. Is that tesco's fault or halifax's? Does anyone else have problems with halifax or tesco FP?0 -
How long is it going to stay 6.5%?0

Til 27/11 ... as per Tiddledom's post above.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

I think the problems are from the Halifax side of things. I've had no problems moving money from First Direct to Tescos by Faster Payments but haven't tried it other way round yet. See this thread which is about recent problems with Halifax Faster Payments.

The Halifax info on Faster Payments i.e how it should work is at
http://www.halifax.co.uk/onlinebankinghelp/fasterpayments.asp
Info about Faster Payments from the Tesco side is at

Also if you do a forum search for Faster Payments there are quite a few threads which mention Halifax.
Hope this helps.MSE. Abandon hope all ye who enter here0 -

Having applied for this account getting on for 3 weeks ago, the £1 opening cheque has been cashed today, which presumably means that the account has been opened. I think I'm supposed to receive a letter with account number and sort code next, but is that all I need to be able to log on to view the account? Do I need a customer number, and if so how do I find this? From reading this thread, I understand that I will need a card reader and card in order to make any withdrawals, which I gather will be automatically requested when logging on for the first time.0

On the same day your cheque is cashed they send out a letter telling you your account is opened (with acc no and sort code). You then have to register for internet banking (you get your customer number at this point but is easy to miss but can be retrieved later). You have to send back to them ANOTHER signed letter. At this point you cannot view your account but can pay money in through BACS or Faster Payments (if your bank is in the FP scheme).
They then send you a registration code and you can finally view the account. You have to proactively order a card reader on-line although they don't tell you you need to do this and it is NOT automatic (can be ordered by phone earlier in the process to save time). They send you a card, pin and card reader (about 14 days from ordering). Until you have the card reader, pin and card you can't withdraw money (except a single telephone withdrawal for up to 10K it appears).MSE. Abandon hope all ye who enter here0
