On a separate note (relevant to Isofa) Tesco told me today there is a general delay in sending out the card pins. Should take 3 working days but currently taking about 6 working days. I'm still waiting for card reader 10 days after ordering (supposed to be sent within 15 days).
thanks for that, i am still waiting for my card, pin and reader, fingers crossed it comes soon as i need to add the payees
does any one know, if the pin and card come first can other card readers be used with them as a mate of mine has one from natwest and if others can be used as well, may ask to borrow hers, i ordered mine on the 6th and have yet to receive any of themMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
I only found out about this account yesterday on the 12th and thought it looked great to get a nice chunk of easy clubcard points. As the account is online, I thought great! I can apply just in time to get the points.
:j
However, when I clicked to apply it said 'savings accounts are not currently available, please try again later'. I tried this a few times through the late evening with no joy and gave up on getting an account with points. When I called Tesco today, after going through the all too familiar maze of an automated service and actually managing to speak to someone, it turns out their online service closes at 9.45pm! I'm not sure if this is just the applications or the whole online service but either way it is pretty dissappointing for someone who is used to being able to access online banking 24hrs a day.
The website said as long as you apply on the 12th Nov you will get the points, not that you have to apply by 9.45pm on the 12th! Having now read all the posts above, I am a little less dissappointed, perhaps I have avoided a lot of form filling and delay! Shame about the clubcard points though.:rolleyes:0 -
I applied for this on the 11th in order to get the clubcard points (and hopefully a decent rate although I;m less confident about that!)
However, I said in my application that I was going to deposit £10 by cheque to open the account. From reading on here, do you think I could send a cheque for £5000 as an initial deposit to get to the account by the end of the month instead of the £10 I'd originally stated?0 -

Yes, you can send in whatever value for the cheque. I did the opposite said I would send large amount then sent a smaller amount.0 -
It is longwinded, see earlier posts in this thread. I applied about 3 weeks ago, and sent a cheque for £100. Heard nothing since, so am glad it wasn't a lot of money to worry about. I am sure it will all be ok eventually, but other posters have had to wait weeks for a card reader thing in order to withdraw their money, and were not told until they actually wanted to access it. So much for 'instant access'! I personally wouldn't put 000s in till I am sure it is all up and running properly.0

I applied on the 12th Nov and have got my first letter today. After reading this thread, I am not sure whether to go for it and see if I can get the bonus points, or to give up now. I have an RBS card reader so don't need to apply for one of those but I would need a card and PIN. I need to get the money out again early December so any delay in setting up the money out facility would not be welcome.0

Why oh blooming why can't you just type in your password instead of this crap 3rd digit, 7th digit. etc I've had the same 10 digit number for years as my password and now I have to write it down to get in to Tescos - which I've just failed twice to login. They call it added security but now I've had to write it down - doesn't this defeat the object of passwords?0

Most online bank accounts operate this type of "random letter from memorable word" security, it's far more secure than entering the full password.
It prevents all manner of ways of hackers from getting your enitre password, although nothing is 100% secure, it does add a significant layer of security.
Furthermore, they will never ask for your password/memorable word in full, so if you end up on a phishing site, or receive a suspect email asking for the full password, alarm bells should ring instantly and you should know something is amiss.0 -
Tesco Finance 6.5% - I applied a month ago theyve been holding my cheque. Complained they hadnt sorted it - reply - "Oh we are very busy" Told them to shove it. ONly the 1.5% bonus is guaranteed 1 year so expect the 6.5% to become 5.00% very soon. They are having us for mugs.
The bonus rate is given to all accounts for the first 12 months, the T+Cs are completely transparent.
Not quite sure how they are "having us as mugs", if you can find another instant access account for 6.5% current (soon to be 6% then you are doing very well!)
Standard Tesco internet savings rate is currently 5% + 1.5% bonus (for 12 months) = 6.5%
However, the standard rate will reduce by 0.5% to 4.5% from 27th November. Tesco are being very open about publicising when the rate will drop on their website, it's not dropping anything like as much as some of the other accounts around at the moment, considering the base rate dropped by 1.5% recently!
So from 27th Nov the account will receive 4.5% + 1.5% bonus = 6% obviously whilst the bonus rate is still running, it's very good rate for instant access.
Also remember if you opened it between 18/9/08 and 12/11/08 depending on the cleared balance as of 30/11/08, you'll get between 500 and 2000 extra clubcard points, worth roughly between £20 and £80 in Tesco "Deals" vouchers.
Still the palaver of setting it up was very tedious, I'm funding mine at the moment to get the bonus points at the end of Nov.0
