I gather that, if you're desperate to withdraw funds and haven't received your card reader, etc., Tesco Finance will arrange this for you over the phone (and so they should ).
I agree, worst account ever to set up. I applied online in early October and haven't received my card reader yet ... though I did get the card and pin last week.
i have just called and they said the card itself should be here in the nxt couple days, but luckilly they let me withdraw the £600 i need to and theyve just said it should be in my lloyds account on monday thank god (wish i didnt have to withdraw, but i didnt intend to have a car accident lol)MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
I have to disagree. The banks don't understand probability (which could be why they are in the mess they are now). A 3 letter password is so low security that is possible to brute force the attack. Say numbers and letters, (some sites are not case sensitive and most user probably only use lower case), 36^3 = 46k. .
Funny you should say that. On an analogous basis then based on the 1 in 36 chance of getting any one of the card, card pin or card reader that means only 1 in every 46,000 applicants will get all three and be able to withdraw money. And so isofa by receiving all three has shown that if enough people apply then someone will be able to withdraw their money :rotfl:
Quote from Tesco in today's paper "Tesco Financial Services aims to be always innovative in it's approach to delivering financial services". Does seem quite innovative to have an instant access account from which you can't make withdrawals :mad:MSE. Abandon hope all ye who enter here0 -
I have opened one of these accounts recently and was hoping to qualify for the extra clubcard points as per the offer.
However, after reading through this thread I am wondering if I will. I have a Tesco credit card, does that make me an existing customer and mean I cannot get the extra points?0 -
Looking for the experience of anyone else on here who has banked with Tesco in the past. Received my account details in the post today (woo!) so thought I'd check if the account has automatically registered to my existing internet banking account (left over from my old savings account)...it hadn't. I looked for a way of 'adding' this new account but failed miserably.
When I went through the 'Register now' section it issued me with a new customer number...does that seem stupid to anyone else, or is it only me that thinks its slightly odd that I will have two sets of log on details for Tesco internet banking...one of which is seemingly defunct but has not been deactivated.
I've banked with HSBC a few times over the years and never been happy, but in their defense, when I have close an account with them, they deactivate my internet banking, and when I open a new one, they 'reissue' me the same customer number and just renew my security details...so much easier.
EDIT: I have my a/c details now so I know I can transfer in...does anyone know if its possible to check the balance over the phone?0 -
i never thought i would say something positive about this account given the hassell, but give them their due, the money i called and asked them to pay to my current account yesterday is already listed on my current account!MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0

I was told I could check my balance free on 08007 838001 but when I tried they gave me an 084 number but this may be because I had only just registered? Worth a try though.0 -

What is the likely hood of tesco dropping their rate?
<Edit> From their website:Savings News
Please note: the interest rate on all our savings accounts will reduce by 0.50% Gross / AER with effect from the 27th November 2008.0 -
Although it does take a while to open the account, I don't seem to have had any of the problems some people have reported - maybe I was just lucky ? Admittedly I don't yet have the card reader, pin number and card but seeing as I am only paying into the account for the forseable future to use it as a high rate savings, am not that bothered. They will arrive whenever. I have also just transferred 3k over to the account (more on its way when ING process my Kaupthing payment requested by bacs as a CHAPS) and sat there and watched the money appear in the account. Only another 2k needed to get the 1500 clubcard points ! Thank you faster payments !!!!"A weak currency arises from a weak economy, which in turn is the result of a weak government" - Gordon Brown 1992 -0

It is proving impossible to open my account. After sending of 2 applications and 3 signature verification letters, my account is still unusable. I canceled my account once, only to have the customer service people make me change my mind. Well now enough is enough. I going to cancel once and for all. The only trouble is their phone keeps saying ring back later, service unavailable, and it cuts me off. Its been doing this since Thursday. What sort of Bank is this?0
