Post Office abuse about prepay paypal postage

if folk are posting a large number of items they should really look at opening an account. The items are then all deliivered to the sorting office and you get a discount too. Not sure what current levels are but used to be around £5,000 a year. Not hard to hit if you mainly use SD.0

Part of the problem with some POs has to be the quality of staff.
Our local main office shut last year and a girl I knew who had worked there for years was offered a job at the new PO which is inside a branch of W. H. Smiths. She was offered half of her previous pay, none of the existing PO staff moved to the new store. They were advertsing in the local paper for "experienced quality staff" and paying them £5.20 per hour.
What!!
Surely for a complicated job like that you need experienced, numerate, intelligent staff and by paying peanuts like that you won't get them.0 -
I live in an area where the majority of post offices have gone, and all the villages around us get a post office van twice a week for an hour a time what use is this if the van arrives when you are at work and is gone by the time that you get home and the nearest place that you can drop mail is a 24 mile round trip
all I can say is if you if you want to loose it don’t use it
and by buying postage online and expecting the post office to handle it FOC then you are not supporting them0 -

exactly, the 'old' style post master/mistresses knew their products and procedures backwards
unfortunatly its the future through the whole network
it will only get worse in a fragmented RM network0 -

Which seems to be this government long term plan. Gradually take the best bits away, give(sell) to johnny foreigner, claim PO is not viable, sell off the rest. :mad:I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

The queues do get me down a bit but although I do have some problems with the Large letter/parcel issue my local PO is very good to its ebay sellers. Two Christmasses ago for instance there was the usual queue out the door on a Monday and there was an ebayer at the counter and me with an obviously full sack of items half way back in the queue and the queue turned militant.
Lots of people egging each other on to agree that we were disgusting for taking so long and that they only wanted their pensions, 14 asorted stamps, a quick chat and an argument about posting a single card to Australia and had to wait for us to muck about with parcels. For a brief moment I was actually worried as the queue were getting very vocal but when it got very loud with cat calling and such like the post mistress came out from behind her counter and gave them a right telling off. She said that the only reason her PO was still open was that she encouraged the ebayers and that if the people in the queue succeeded in making us so unwlecome that we went somewhere else then she was 'that' close to be closed down that they would probably succeed in pushing her over the edge. She just stood there and said 'shall I turn these peopel away then even though you know that will mean me closing for good next Spring, or shall we let them stay?' she also pointed out that she earned virtually nothing on them all queing for small things and that some of her ebayers spent hundreds of pounds every week.
would have loved to be there for that one - what a hoot ! :rotfl:0 -
how does the prepay thing work ? - is it any good ? - drawbacks ? - been Ebaying for 8 years and allways had to q with the muttering masses it it worth doing ?0
