exactly, all part of a potentially very time consuming service. i can almost smell the dread whenever i announce i have some recorded deliveries to post, from the member of staff who has to plough through the lengthy process, to the people in the queue behind me.

as i said this may just be a stepping stone, however RM can never seem to win
remember this is a company where everybody is a customer in some form
every day i hear complaints that conflict against each other
    RM need to make profit
RM charged me for an underpaid item
    RM need to modernise
RM have changed X and i dont like it

    etc etc

And if you get abuse again from this person, then i'd make a complaint.

I agree, go here to complain http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content2?catId=20000202&mediaId=3100051
  • :( fwiw, mine's great. it's only small but we're on first name terms, they're always interested in what i'm selling and they let regular ebay sellers drop stuff off and come back later to pay  and they're always correcting people about postcode mistakes, or advising people not to ship to nigeria, etc. they make the odd mistake (usually any temp staff) but usually i notice, like today they priced up a 1.5kg item at 0.5kg, guy wondered why i was trying to give them £10 extra for a while :rotfl:

Part of the problem is that RM should never have been made into company needing to make a profit. It should be there as a public service organisation to help the infrastructure and communications network of the UK.... it should still be 100% publicly owned anf funded then 90% of the issues would go. ...but I guess thats just my view:confused:

i agree,or how about we waited until we were required by the european legislation to open our market.
its still not a requirement and we are the only country to have done it
so TNT and the like have a secure home market but are free to get busienss here
they also get cash from their own government

There are a lot of things you can do before you take your parcels to the post office. If you have recorded or SD items get a stock of barcode labels and stick them on with the address label. Check the postcode/address is correct on the RM website as these are processed quicker when it is confirmed. The same applies to airmail stickers and customs forms, all the information you require is on the RM webiste. Sort your items into large letters & packages, first & second class. If you have accurate scales you can also sort them into weight bands and write it on in the corner of each item. If you have a lot of items in the same price band tell the assistant to enter the quantity and print multiple labels, its suprising how many dont know how to do this.
I queued up with nearly 50 asorted packages today and they were all dealt with in the time it took the old dear in the next window to collect her pension (with these new fangled payment cards!)

Hi custardy, just like to add that i have never ever had a problem with Royal Mail, i think for the cost we get a very good service, its just a shame that the Post Office are the first point of contact and often let the system down with staff who are unwilling to change and update. Every other business has to evolve to suit the market but the Post Office classes itself as a national institution and feels thats the rest of the country owes them a living, something which none of us have the luxury of at the moment.

72p, not much money really is it.

i'm just pointing out that as efficient business goes, the time it takes to log 1 recorded delivery at the post office, and then have it signed for the other end, really can't equate to many pence left in actual profit.

    or maybe not......http://news.stv.tv/business/35749-royal-mail-halfyear-profit-soars/ ;)
