Usually a long queue at lunchtime in the post office near work. If you then put an email complaint in via Post Office Website, they check, and then send saying they will look into staffing and 12 first class stamps as compensation. Only done this twice though (couple of months apart).
  • when it takes so long to put through 1 recorded delivery item at the post office, and then the time it must take the other end to get it delivered, i'm not surprised royal mail are struggling.

i stand waiting for 5-10 mins just to put a few recorded deliveries through, i'm thinking of offering to leave a float so they can do it at their leisure !

  • This is a subject which affects me a lot, I do use my PO for parcels under 2kg and have quite a few of them but as someone has pointed out it takes forever and the tutting sighing and foot tapping is enough to put most people off for life. I will not stop going there though as it is our duty to keep it open.
    Loving the dtd thread. x

The queues do get me down a bit but although I do have some problems with the Large letter/parcel issue my local PO is very good to its ebay sellers. Two Christmasses ago for instance there was the usual queue out the door on a Monday and there was an ebayer at the counter and me with an obviously full sack of items half way back in the queue and the queue turned militant.

Lots of people egging each other on to agree that we were disgusting for taking so long and that they only wanted their pensions, 14 asorted stamps, a quick chat and an argument about posting a single card to Australia and had to wait for us to muck about with parcels. For a brief moment I was actually worried as the queue were getting very vocal but when it got very loud with cat calling and such like the post mistress came out from behind her counter and gave them a right telling off. She said that the only reason her PO was still open was that she encouraged the ebayers and that if the people in the queue succeeded in making us so unwlecome that we went somewhere else then she was 'that' close to be closed down that they would probably succeed in pushing her over the edge. She just stood there and said 'shall I turn these peopel away then even though you know that will mean me closing for good next Spring, or shall we let them stay?' she also pointed out that she earned virtually nothing on them all queing for small things and that some of her ebayers spent hundreds of pounds every week.

Dont get me wrong, I hate the idea of post offices having to close and support mine where possible. But its not on to have a go at your customers. When i got made redundant i had to keep smiling to the end, and i doubt my P/O would have given a damn if they knew. Also i dont think sneaking extra postage on your parcels would be classed as upselling.

Hi Vangirl, i think it was an absolute liberty that the P.O worker had a go at you. I use Paypal postage a lot & it does cut down on time & it's very handy especially when you have plenty of Paypal funds to cover the costs.

If you want to use Paypal postage,...... use Paypal postage!

And if you get abuse again from this person, then i'd make a complaint.
  • "huh?"

am i missing something ? our recorded deliveries still get delivered to the address, in person, awaiting a signature.....?

so why is that an issue to make royal mail struggle?
  • 72p, not much money really is it.

i'm just pointing out that as efficient business goes, the time it takes to log 1 recorded delivery at the post office, and then have it signed for the other end, really can't equate to many pence left in actual profit.

rm dont set the pricing, the regulator does
otherwise you would pay much much more

rm are introducing new tracking systems in a phased roll out
so whilst you may not see the purpose now(im assuming here)
you may see it in the long run

undelivered RD's cost far more to process
