Post Office abuse about prepay paypal postage

FYI they are pressurised into offering/selling all of the other services
I agree with you Custardy, I am a mystery shopper who often 'shops' the post office and the focus is very much on assessing the staff on their ability to sell insurance, currency etc and not stamps and parcels.:j Go on, shake your money maker! :j0 -

Few points.
- Recorded Deliveries used to be quiiiick but now we have to put the address onto the system manually (this is for the customer's benefit to make claims easier and quicker in the result of loss/damage during transit)
- Some POs have really dickish staff which makes me ANGRY, in my PO it's a bundle of laughs and minus one or two stupid pathetic annoying regular customers, everyone gets along soooo well.
- If you think you're getting overcharged at your PO, don't just pay it! SAY SOMETHING! Say "uh I measured it at home and I think it's a Large Letter" or whatever.
- The PayPal prepaid postage is sooooo annoying haha. But it's part of the job, it's part of what we do. It is taking business away from us but if it saves you that much time/money then so be it.
- The pressure to push products is unbelievable, you actually wouldn't realise how bad it is unless you work there. So please be patient and bear with us while we're reeling off the advantages of our latest product..!
- And the reason we have all these products is because we need them to survive. It's not a joke, all Post Offices will literally close down in 2012 if our 5-year plan hasn't got us back in the green. And selling stamps isn't enough to do that, which is why we do foreign currency, credit cards, homephone, broadband, savings accounts, growth bonds etc.
Long live the PO, best job in the world0 -

wow! I used to work for a clothes store. If I had lashed out at customers, straight away the customer would have complained to the manager. Following that I would have been likely sent home if there was cover. Then I would get a diciplinary hearing and head office would be in touch....
Just because they are under pressure does not make it right!
Think about teachers, doctors, policemen, all the other "under pressure" jobs about. If they lashed out like that there would be a field day -and the press would be over the moon if someone from Parliament had a tantrum!...
I realise that no one is perfect, but an apology is owed here, its not your fault that as a result of ques and overcharging you are forced to use your own computer, not thiers.
If that had been me, I would have yelled back "well if this is the kind of customer service I get then I should visit more often!"0 -
I do feel sympathy for them being under pressure to upsell all the time. You can see it in their faces when they launch into the pre-rehearsed spiel whether you've already said you're not interested or not. It seems unfair when they signed up for a customer service/admin job, not sales. The PO should have dedicated sales staff instore (so we can weave about, duck out and avoid them).
I don't take it that far, but I don't doubt some folks find it annoying enough for it to be a factor in choosing online postage instead...0 -
I get that spiel about the do you want topups from the town centre one. One time it statled me and dropped my debit card. The chip fell out and had to super glue it back in! Our local one that's inside a local shop - you quite often find you have to wake him up and sometimes the postage weights aren't always what you'd think they would be. We've had our closures and it remains open
Although sometimes its shut as the store is going through a ownership change. 0 -
I took in some Sd prepaid today and the assisitant wasnt even going to give me a reciept or put them through the system I explained that I needed the reciept for the tracking and she tutted and her boss said something in Foriegn and "then just do it" he then said to me there was no point in prepaying special delivery as it still had to be put through the system I tried to explain that it was just easier for me because I was paid via paypal and I could pay for post with paypal, 5 parcels today all sd ranging from 5.05 and 8.25 cash I would not get back for 10 days because paypal is so slow!!!! Think I will use a courier from now on for items that are more than £36 then take all my usual stuff in and pay there and then and be out of pocket for the 10 days it takes paypal to give me back my money:mad:Mortgage overpayments 2008 (started August) £3000

At work we are targeted on Special Delivery, well my manager is. If a special delivery is prepaid the store gets nothing and doesn't count towards it's target.
Now a prepaid special delivery takes the same time to process then a non paid one. Now we have a guy come in everyday with 10-20 special deliveries - all prepaid. 1 - 2 minutes per special delivery, depending on if the address can be found, otherwise we have to enter the full address by hand. Plus it's very easy to forget to knock the price of the postage off that delivery and end up having to cancel it all, void the transaction and start again. My manager asked him if he could pay for the deliveries there because it wouldn't take any longer, but he won't do it. Once he even asked to leave them all and he'll pick the receipts up later. My manager refused and rightly so, it would of ment a member of staff sat there for upwards of 30 minutes processing all these specials and not getting rewarded from it.... plus moaning from the other customers shouting stuff like "Look At him just sat there not serving anybody".0 -

My post office do exactly that for me in return for me not using pre-paid postage. I don't even have to queue, I can go straight to a side window, hand over my parcels and walk back out again. I pay once-twice a week. Saves me SO much time.0
