I'm kind of surprised by what I've read about Tesco. Been with them for quite a while and am relatively happy with the service. If a dvd hasnt arrived by three days after the expected arrival date I report it and they send out another disk.
Generally the turnaround time is 2-3 days. Keeping a large number ie 50+ in your list and make them all high priority should speed up the arrival of desired movies.

I used a Blockbuster trial, 3 films at a time for 6 weeks. The turnaround was about 3 days, so if you were lucky, you could get about 6 films a week. Another bonus not noted by others is that when you end your trial, they will still send out the films that are being dispatched on that day without incurring further charge AND they work on a pro-rata basis, so you only pay for the proportion of the month you use.
Lovefilm, 2 month trial, 2 films at a time - started off very fast turnaround. Next films dispatched on day previous returned, so could get 6 films per week. Now however, 4 weeks into trial, they have cut my turnaround and now lucky if get 3 per week.
    Not impressed.
  • My 3 month trial with Tesco has been excellent. Very quick turnaround / all series discs in correct order - could not be better especially with the 750 points. Do they offer any points now since I need to renew soon?

I have had bad experiance with a particular online dvd company.
Put it this way, You must read your email, otherwise you may find even after canceling during trial or after, that monthly payments go missing from your account.

There are many people that dont read their email every single day, well this company will penalise you for Not doing this and then state it is in thier t&c's about this and that. Even though you as the customer is right and they, certainly, as a service provider are wrong.

Long story but put it this way
I personally would NOT reccomend these - S.Slct _pale_

    hi,

yep i had problems with them as well.

already posted on the board ( but cant remember where now) - basically they took money from my account because the dvds came back late even though i had proof of posting in good time.

still chasing them ... but they dont reply to emails and there is no telephone number or real address

    avoid them.
  • Hi, I latched onto the free DVD rental trials thing some time ago and have been through most of the providers. I now find it hard to find one I've not used before. On the whole this has worked very well for me - I must have seen 35+ movies over the past 18 months or so and have never ended up paying (apart from once when I've agreed to pay for a special "re-join us" promotion offer e.g. 2 months for price of 1.) I could have got through even more movies if I had returned discs more quickly. I have been billed only twice, I think, at the end of the free trial and then the payment has been reversed, very soon afterwards. I was told on at least one of these occasions the refund would have happened anyway but I sent the companys an email just in case. I would recommend setting yoursef a reminder (I use my BTyahoo diary email alerts) for a few days before the trial is due to expire, then another reminder a day or two later to return any discs (and get a certificate of posting just in case there's a dispute.)

I most recently used 1DVD.com as I had not heard of them before. Reasonably fast service but I've never know a company send more discs from the bottom of your rental queue! - discs you wish you hadn't put on the queue in the first place - so a word of warning there!

I've recently had a "come back to us for 3 months and pay for 1" email from Lovefilm. I like the Lovefilm website, members email newsletter, speed of discs and ranking on my rental list they send out. I've been with them on a free trial and a promotion. My serious gripe with them however is that now you CANNOT CANCEL BY EMAIL  . This is well hidden on their website. I checked the site this morning and you have to enter your membership details just to find out how to cancel! You have to do it by phone - this costs you money of course and you are confronted by a no-doubt targetted customer retentions person who tries to convince you (as if his life depended on it) to sign up for a lighter package before leaving them. IMO this is ludicrous when the whole operation is founded on the idea of the Internet and every other site I've come across lets you cancel by email. This is unwanted hassle for you for their possible benefit. I imagine all sites "powered by Lovefilm" are like this.

I have had nothing but problems with Tesco. I tried to cancel while on my free trial but they still could the money out of my account. Refused to refund the money and not give me the 1000 points. i cancelled because the they didn't meet the required standard we need subtitles as OH has damaged hearing from army service. i'm £18.91 out of pocket they ignor me then yesterday out of the blue they send an unsuitable DVD with no subtitles. i'm at my wits end I havecancelled my shopping orders as we are on disability benefits and cannot afford to give Tesco a money donation I'm open to suggestions. Ifind using the phone very difficult because of medical conditions so I can't even ring CS.

I've used Amazon for about 9 months now and have never had a problem. If a film doesn't run they send another one no problem (+ no questions asked) & re-credited a film. Really good choice of films and ability to get advanced/upcoming films. The choice of old films etc .

hi all, i have used all of the free dvd rental trials (more than once, in total i have recieved about 300 films over 2 years) and i have found that the most important thing to me is recieving the titiles from the top of your rental queue, ie all the newest release top titles (for me anyway) and i have found lovefilm to be the best at this.
most require you to create a wish list of 20 titles, then some companies send you out the titles at the bottom of your list, which for me is crap!

i have also worked out way of using the same rental company over and over and over agian for free trials, with the discs always coming to your home address. for details on how to do it pm me!

I am 3 weeks into the Screenselect free trial and I am EXTREMELY impressed, so much so that I am almost tempted to start subscribing....only almost though cos I know the service level is liable to drop after I sign up :D I absoloutely love the system they use, rather than put your list in order of preference, you select 3 options (send as soon as possible, send when available, not too concerned when I receive this DVD etc) and as a result it's usually a suprise what comes through the door. With Blockbuster it was always my top selections, which is obviously great but it's kinda nice having a list of films you wanna see and being suprised when they drop through the door.

Their turnaround has been faultless, we send them back, they get there the nest day and on the same day send some more out, so we receive them the next day. Their recommendations are excellent too, I have rated 80-odd movies on there and my recommendations are nearly all films I would want so see, if I haven't done so already. All the discs have been in perfect condition too. Really can't speak highly enough of them. By far better than Blockbuster and LoveFilm IMO in terms of the free trial.
