DVD rental providers feedback

pug_in_a_bed wrote:I have found LOVEFILM and ScreenSelect to have been excellent. I have been paying for lovefilm for a while but screenselect have just sent me an offer to rejoin them. I cancelled Lovefilm on Friday, and went the PO with dvds to get a COP. In total, I posted 3 Screenselect dvds of my sisters, 5 Lovefilm of mine, and 4 lovefilm of my mums. My lovefilm dvds have to be back by the 8th Jan.
Come Saturday all dvds had reached their desination bar my own - ie. the ones which need to be back because I have cancelled.
They still have not reached their destination.
I can't help feeling a bit suspicious, that perhaps lovefilm may be doing some creative hiding of cancelled account dvds....I really don't want to get charged for another month, and am wondering if anyone has presented them with a cert. of postage when they have cancelled and if this has been sufficient for them not to charge you for yet another month.
I was caught like this by Screen Select and unfortunately had to pay for another month. Now when I want to cancel, I empty my rental queue so that they can't send out any more, post the dvds and then cancel when I see that they have received them. I never cancel first.0 -
It won't be the end of the world if I have to use another month as I am a complete film buff, but I just think its strange that all the other dvds I posted have arrived fine!0

I have used Blockbusters free trial a few months ago and thought they were very good, Have just signed upto Sainsburys and Cinema Paradiso's free trials. Will post back feedback once there up.0

I signed up for the Tesco 3-month subscription for the points and so far (3 weeks in), the turnaround has been 2-3 working days between returning and receiving. Some days I receive the despatch email the same day I get the dvd.
I'm a total CSI:Vegas buff, so this was a gift to myself instead of buying (who has the space these days?!). So far, Ive only got 5 discs but thats mainly due to not watching and returning quickly rather than any turnaround problems.
Personally, I convert £11.95-ish of Tesco vouchers to blockbuster vouchers and rent DVD's once a week if I want a DVD to suit my mood and use the DVD rentals for series like CSI, Babylon 5, Lost etc that I couldnt get at my local shop and don't want to buy."There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

We were thinking of doing similar for same reasons but was wondering how do they split up the series and discs etc.? If you buy in a shop you tend to get a half series i.e 1-11 or 12-23, yet some of the rental sites seem to have split them down to single discs with 3 episodes on each, also are they coming in any order or just random.
thanks for any info you have0 -

With cinema paradiso, do you know what the cancelling situation is, ie , do you have to cancel a certain nuber of days before you are billed?
Thanks.
The series question by Woby_Tide: if you put your discs in order of preference you will most likely get them in the right order. Screenselect have an option on their rental list for you to decide if you want series discs sent in order. Lovefilm don't but I find they are usually in order (I love ER!).0 -

For Lovefilm, each disc is sent out seperately. You can request for the whole series but sometimes they don't send them out in order, which isn't really important for something like CSI, I think. They don't really have flowing stories.
And just a note for customer loyalty, I have been a member with lovefilm since june last year and I never, ever get my top 10 films anymore. It's getting quite laughable that I am now seriously thinking of moving to another company.
They are having lots of changes lately so I will give them a few more months and a few more customer service queries but the trick with these companies seem to lure you in with the latest releases and then lock you with watching older films which they have lots of copies of. :mad:0 -

Tesco DVD rental send out 1 disc at a time but they do send the box set out in disc order. Each box set is split down to it's individual discs so you can take out 1.5 for instance if you've seen all the episodes on that disc."There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

I have been a member of lovefilm off and on for over a year (whenever there is a deal or special offer) am currently with them on a free two months two discs trial (code on Freebies thread). I have had all my top films, new releases, etc and they are also sending them out very quickly (which hasn't always been the case in the past). I returned a disc to them yesterday in the last post and they have already received it and shipped The Island which was my first choice (hope it is good). Maybe I have just been lucky or maybe they are improving their service.0
