I've been using Screen Select quite happily for well over a year, now.

My only real gripe is that they seem to have certain titles listed that they are just not able to send out.

I have about 10 titles marked "send as soon as possible", but most of these have been there between 2 and six months.

I gave up both Qflix and DVD365 because of a similar effect where, after you'd been with them for some time, 'unavailable' titles propagate to the top of your list, and the disks at the top of that list simply don't get sent. Eventually you can have fifteen titles that are permanently ignored.

I have had to complain three times regarding slow despatch of dvd`s. They have only bothered to respond once, and then gave a standard reply of saying sorry, offering no reason for cause of complaint, or reason for poor service.
Sometimes my account can say they have recieved back my returned dvd, and the "Awaiting despatch" has been showing for 4 days.
I keep over 20 dvd`s in my queing list, so this should be plenty for them to choose from.
In my opinion they are slow in despatching on purpose to avoid you watching too many dvd`s over the course of the month.
I have decided the only way forward, due to the lack of service, and appalling customer service, is to leave, and try another supplier.
My moneysaving advise is therefore dont waste it on Tesco DVD rental. use another supplier which will look after the customer, not in it to look after there profit margin only.

I've only been with Tesco for a month, but very pleased so far with films sent (always been top four) and speed of dispatch. I won't get carried away yet though, judging by some of the comments on here. Also, anyone with Lovefilm should rent through WH Smith at £2 per month less - Lovefilm actually run it. And Video Island (now ScreenSelect I believe) runs the Tesco service, but charges £2.02 per month more. Personally, with every service I've subscribed to, I've noticed the films sent out progressively come from lower and lower down your list, and this is when I change.
  • Based upon my own experience I wouldn't touch Screenselect with a barge pole. Avoid at all costs.
  • Have used both Screenselect and Easy Cinema DVD rental. As you may know these are actually the same company (Video Island). As such my experience of them is identical. Turnaround of DVDs is very quick, if I post a disc back Monday I will receive a new disc by Wednesday. They also seem quite good at shipping my higher priority discs. All in all very pleased with the service.

The reason I changed from Screenselect to Easy Cinema is because Easy Cinema is PAYG which I find optimal for me. I sometimes have discs that sit on top of the TV for a few weeks before I get round to watching them. With Screenselect this represented dead cash as I was essentially paying for the unused weeks of rental. However on PAYG this problem vanishes.

    Hope that helps someone.

i am suprised by the comments of regular users, looks like i'll keep on being a tart for as long as possible. i've always been sent whatever was number 1 on my wishlists and always without delay  mind you i do choose some pretty unusual films at times - perhaps you should get into japanese cinema, its usually more original than, or even is the original version of, what hollywood churns out these days!!

if a title has become stagnant at the top of your list has anyone tried deselecting it and then reselecting it again. maybe making a new request for it will 'remind' the system. it shouldnt work that way but you never know how with these things.

What about moving some of your 'top choice' films down the list a little bit? I know that's not perhaps the most sensible suggestion you'll hear all day but it works for me. I have a top ten list of films that I would like to see, but am not going to throw a wobbly if they don't turn up immediately, with the newest releases i tend to add them to the top fifty somewhere (I have about 200 titles in my queue) and I seem to do OK.

(As per my earlier post on the subject I am with Blockbuster)

I'd like to take a trial with Amazon. The list earlier in this thread says that you can get a free trial from Amazon but it seems you have to be invited by an existing member. Is this true?

I don't know anyone who is a member so is there any other way to get a free trial?

I have found LOVEFILM and ScreenSelect to have been excellent. I have been paying for lovefilm for a while but screenselect have just sent me an offer to rejoin them. I cancelled Lovefilm on Friday, and went the PO with dvds to get a COP. In total, I posted 3 Screenselect dvds of my sisters, 5 Lovefilm of mine, and 4 lovefilm of my mums. My lovefilm dvds have to be back by the 8th Jan.

Come Saturday all dvds had reached their desination bar my own - ie. the ones which need to be back because I have cancelled.

They still have not reached their destination.

I can't help feeling a bit suspicious, that perhaps lovefilm may be doing some creative hiding of cancelled account dvds....I really don't want to get charged for another month, and am wondering if anyone has presented them with a cert. of postage when they have cancelled and if this has been sufficient for them not to charge you for yet another month.
  • I have been using LoveFilm for about 2 months, and cant rate them enough. Very good service.
