I signed up with Blockbuster and can truly say that I cannot fault them. They email when they send your dvds and when they get them back. First rate service so its a pity I will be cancelling in a couple of weeks as the 2 free months will soon be up.

Oh dear.. such a promising start and then I got let down with a bump..

I elected the 3 discs at home package and all went well until the third week when my supplies got 'calmed.

I complained of course about not getting unlimited 3 discs
at home as advertised.. Imagine my surprise when I received this explanation..

"Thank you for your recent email. I am sorry to hear you are unhappy with the service you are receiving.

We always do our best to get our customers the next discs they want as soon as possible. In fact, 75% of what we ship each day is to customers whose previous rentals arrived earlier that day.

However, we do operate a Fair Use Policy that aims to ensure a balanced experience for all our members. This means that we give priority to members who don't rent high numbers of discs from us. Therefore, members who rent the most discs from us might experience lower mailing priority. By allocating discs in this way we ensure a fair system for all members.

The Fair Use Policy is in our Terms and Conditions and available for you to read simply by clicking on the Terms and Conditions link at the bottom of the home page.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us."

I resigned of course extremely angry that 'unlimited' was in fact limited if one were a high user. How on earth can WH Smith justify such advertising?

Yes Block buster are good I have to give them credit for it. Most fo my 5 week trial so far discs have be sent the same day they arrive back to them, the only exception was on Friday of last week, when the would normally be sent, they wasnt sent until Monday but arrived today.

I am tempted to use them again.

I'm with tesco at the moment. I had a problem with the DVD they were supposed to send on friday, it was apparently because they had a robbery at a warehouse of theirs. I got a replacement DVD on monday but it wasn't from my list it was one they had previously sent me!
But that wasn't their fault other than tht they have been good so far only on my third week though.

  • Just a warning to take care with cinemaparadiso. Signed up for free trial using martin's link provided here. No problem receiving dvds quickly, but they have debited my card on first day of free trial for £137!
I have been emailing them (no telephone number available) for over 10 days, and to date no response!

    Anyone else experienced same treatment?
Yes I have had similar problems with this company. I signed up for the free one m onth trial with the intention of tarting. I cancelled the trial the day before the month was up and them five days later they charged my account! So I reactivated my account to use it for another month (as I'd paid for it I thought I'd use it) and they charged me again! I phoned after the first charge was debited and then sent an e-mail a week ago but had no reply. I'm really not happy with the service I'm getting from them.
  • I have been trying the free trials and I have found Sainsbury's and Blockbuster brilliant.

Poastdvd terrible, tried a two week trial which ends today took around 4 days before dvds diispatched and still not received any dvds and trial ended yesterday.

Now trying Screenselect and received dvds two days after joining. Will definitly join one of these as it works out so cheaper than going to the rental shop.

i was with bluckbuster and did find the service quite good - quit when the free trial ended. I have also tried both screen select and tesco and found them both quite prompt in turnaround of dvds.
i seem to have run out of movies that i want to watch though

I started renting online with ScreenSelect, who were really good (apart from the obvious envelopes and erratic delivery times (2-3 days during the free trial, but 4-5 days after that)

Then I saw a cheaper deal at Tesco's so I switched.
They took 3 weeks to process my application, then told me I couldn't have the free trial because I'd already had a trial with ScreenSelect - a related video rental company.
I said I didn't mind not having the free trial, just start my subscription straight away. Tesco never replied.
After two weeks, I contacted them again and the only advice they gave was to apply again.
Needless to say, I didn't bother.

I switched to Blockbuster, who are expensive, but the turnaround time is quite good and I get a good mix of new releases and old films. Website is a bit poor, though.

I've tried about all of them on their various free trials. What I've found is that during all the free trials their turn around is great. Basically giving you some priority I guess so that you think the service is good. However, in nearly all cases I've carried on and a month later the turn around just grinds to a halt. Blockbuster did, Tesco's did it and now Sainsbury's have done it. I stuck with Sainsburys for some time as I was on average getting about 2 or 3 per week (I watch alot of movies). Suited me fine. However, this last 3 weeks I've only received 2 DVD's. This is on a 3 DVD package mind you. So not good.
Going to be shopping about for another service soon as I'm not happy with Sainsbury's!
Life's too short to grow up ... :j
