  • P.S. (Again) sorry to everyone else about their bad experiences. What I'd suggest is to speak directly to Head Office as they are the ones who can do something. They are more likely to listen to customers than anyone.
Just please remember that it isn't the staff on the front line that are to blame (hence my rather angry response above). Extra stores are worse for queues and things so I'd suggest the smaller stores, but to order in an Extra item it will take 2 days (thats the bad thing). Again, sorry about your bad experiences. (Oh, just quickly, if you ever have an issue with a member of staff speak to the Store Manager (not stock room manager or sales support manager), they will/should deal with this asap.)

    Thanks.

Not sure I understand the issue... you select an item, then when at your trolley, click on the "go back and add more items" button and repeat to add more. When you get back to your trolley if you click the "reserve for store pickup" checkboxes, they'll all appear on the same reservation number.

I did this. Realise now it was because one item is coming from an Extra store so wont be there till after the other reservation expires. thanks, makes sense now!

  • I have worked in retail for 18 years and I know that customers can be extremley rude and ignorant and can treat you like something nasty the dog did - these people deserve the treatment they get in stores!
Argos seem to be going down the pan and it is not the fault of the people in the stores it is people at the top who have made very poor decisions this year !!!!!!!

Not many people seem to like the self service terminals. They are really easy to use, and have easy to follow instructions. It's a touch screen to enter your order details, then a normal chip & PIN machine connected to take payment from your card.

From experience, even when there is a big queue, there is usually a terminal free.

Not sure if it's still the case, but in the past the self service things did not handle bundled items properly. For instance, in my case a while back I ordered an Xbox console and if you bought the console, you got a game free. The bundle was all on one reservation number and showed the correct price of £99. When you put your reservation number in at the self service till, it charges you for the free bundeled items as well.
When this happened to me, I joined the huge ques for the tills. When I was eventually swerved, I was told I had to go to the customer services queue. Joined another huge queue this time for customer services.

I was behind a bloke who was trying to return a lawn mower for a full refund from a set which includes a hedge trimmer and something else. He seemed really surprised that he could not get his money back by just returning the one item :)

As expected, the entire transaction had to be refunded with overrides provided by a hard to find supervisor, then the items had to be put back in stock, then they could be taken out of stock again.

She said the self service tills can’t handle bundled items.

Also, you can’t use vouchers in the self services tills and seeing as they seem to have an offer on every couple of weeks with vouchers, it’s hard to actually get to the point where you don’t have any to spend (not that I’m complaining about that).

I’m not surprised nobody uses them – I don’t anymore.
  • I think you just dropped unlucky - have used them for bundles (Gameboy + game = extra game free) before now.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...

Probably, I do tend to be a bit unlucky at times ;)

The woman did say that there was a known s/w fault with them at the time where they did not charge correctly for bundles and they all seemed to know about it (at customer services). This was a while back though. Probably 9 months or possibly even more, so chances are it's fixed.

It just annoyed me at the time cos it was such a waste of time and a known problem.

I am right in thinking that they don't take vouchers though? It would be nice if you could scan them in or put the codes in or something.

Anyway the two people serving at the pick up points seemed to have the mental capacity of a single celled organism
... so that is where ex civil service people go ;)
... they had very little staff actually working but there seemed to be a lot of staff walking around looking as if they were busy (i.e. doing !!!!!! all).
    ... definitely ex civil service

Although they are very useful and extremely quick ;), the Argos self-service tills can't handle half of the stuff you want them to. For example, the Argos tills can't take vouchers as mentioned previously. Perhaps they need to improve their technology and use something a little better that can handle cash and vouchers, thus reducing annoying queues at the normal tills.

Perhaps something like this: http://www.ufcw.org/images/uscan_solo.jpg. :);)

    Vouchers, agree.

Cash? Stand in the naughty corner. No MSE-er should be using cash if they can get a cashback credit card....
