grimelda wrote:Yes, Argos stink. I am boycotting them. I've only bought about six or seven items from them and had problems with at least half.
I wish people would stop buying from a store they have complaints about; if everyone did they'd be out of business or would learn to treat their customers better.
care to elaborate?
im sure if more people did complain then business might be affected0 -
Yes, the Argos business may be affected as a result of people not purchasing from them or complaining to Head Office, but think about the amount of people who walk through the Argos door each day and also think about the number of products in their catalogue and how many of them can be bought elsewhere.0

executiverocker:
I bought a bike from them along with helmet and bike lock to be home delivered. I lined up a day about a week later and bribed my housemate to stay home so she could sign for it. The day came and the helmet and lock were delivered but not the bike. When I called, the girl on the phone asked me why I thought the bike would be delivered as the receipt clearly stated that they would not deliver the bike until it was made up at the factory. I would be called when it was ready. I looked at the receipt and what she said was true; however, at the time I bought these things it was never stated that the bike wouldn't be delivered and I didn't look at the receipt. If I'd known I would have taken the small things with me and saved myself the bribe and my housemate the hassle of waiting a whole day for something that wouldn't come. It was almost a month before my bike finally arrived. It cost me almost £40 extra in transport over that month. Had I known it would take so long I would have gone and bought a second hand bike from a small store. Back then I didn't know how Argos worked.
Two months later the chain broke as I was cycling up a slight incline (ruining a pair of jeans and leaving me with scars on my knee and elbow, but grateful not to be run over). I called Argos (was on hold for more than 30 minutes, too) and asked how to go about getting it repaired. They said that I would need to take it to a qualified bike repair place and get them to write a certificate stating that the fault was with the manufacturer and not because I abused the bike! THEN they would refund the cost of the certificate and get it repaired. I took it to the bike place and they charged me £5 to fix it on the spot so I didn't bother with the certificate bull****.
Before that I had bought a backpack. When I got it home and opened the plastic it smelled like a homeless person. It was foul. I put it aside to take it back and never got around to it, so when I moved in November I just threw it away.
We bought two digital radios for work. Less than two weeks later they both needed to be taken back because they just stopped working. One of the replacements then started smoking one afternoon when it wasn't even running, just plugged in. I hate to think what might have happened if it had been a weekend.
I bought a CD player which sometimes just doesn't play. It's only five months old. You have to turn it on and off a few times to get it going.
A set of kitchen scales (5kg) which have an error margin of +/- 100g. They were cheap so I can't really complain, but they are utterly useless. It's more accurate to just eyeball amounts.
In contrast, things which worked fine:
Salter digital kitchen scales. I bought these because I trust that brand and Argos were the cheapest.
Dumbell set.
That's all I've bought from them. I've been burnt too many times to buy anything else. I just really wish other people who complain about them would also stop going back. Almost everyone I know here in the UK has had to take back something or has been stuffed around by them in some way.'Everyone loves to read but it can be a real nuisance when you lose your place. Here's a solution. When you finish reading a page, just tear it out. You'll save money on bookmarks too!' -- Amanda's Handy Hints, Amanda Keller. :cool:0 -
I think Argos can be held up as a prime example of MSE. If you want to save money then you have to accept you MAY (not always) get a lower quality of service - the choice is yours, pay less and possibly receive worse service or pay more for possibly better service (although can anyone think of a retailer who hasn't been slagged off on these boards at one time or another?).
For the record, I've stopped using Argos Direct as I've had a couple of bad experiences with them and no-one seemed to want to take any ownership of the issues but generally, I've had good service with the stuff the stores can handle. As others have said, if you don't go in ranting and raving, you're more likely to get the staff on your side.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
What people don't seem to understand with argos is it's all down to the management team and the team leaders and support you get from your members of staff so at the end of the day you could stand there and moan about the service to a member of staff in the store but they dont care one little bit at christmas of course its busy but by getting angry to a member of staff or violent is not going to solve anything its just going to delay the item because it will be hidden for a while so jus be patient because at christmas we all have familys to get home to i for sure dont want to be stuck around a bunch of moaning people on christmas eve who are complaining about everything being out of stock get a grip get off you A**e and go shopping before christmas eve DUH!!!!!!![/B][/B]0

ive worked for argos for 5 yrs now and there is just some points i'd like to get across
-you only pay at customer services when there is no till open, don't be lazy and come to customer services coz u don't want to join a queue
-remember staff are only doing what they are told to do its not their fault is they are following their procedure thats what there are gettin paid the minimum wage to do
- whoever z that they were in an argos and there wasnt enough staff on but ther was people walking about saying they werent doing nothing but the staff that were doing that have to also do displays and try to get people to go to quickpay as they are told to do so by their manager.
yes i do agree that customer service could do better but that is because we are pushed to acheive targets and have the shopfloor looking perfect or we get marked down by other managers but that not the staffs fault
and as i said i have worked there for 5 yrs and have watched people who have worked there less time and have done nothing get promotions because of certain things
at the end of the day we r people too and when a customers be's rude to you it affects you the rest of the day p.s new catalogues out now lol0 -
also i hate it when people tell me that they won't be back and the next week their in again being nice if you don't like it don't come back no one cares your only making profit for the company its not like the staff see it0
