First of all, sorry for the necro-reply...
She then aksed why she couldn't have one of the other colours and was told that they must be a different item! What a load of rubbish. They then had to go through a fiasco of refunding one item and selling it with a different catalogue number. I have never seen anything so stupid as they are exactly the same toy, they just come in different colours!!!
If you look at any different coloured items, they are always different products (look at the barcodes) - by definition a red item is not the same a blue item!

For example, imagine iPod Nano's - they come in lots of different colours. Some colours (lets say red) sell a lot better than others (for example, green). The store sells out of red ones, and wants to order some more in. If they all have the same SKU (cat number / product code / whatever), how an earth can you order in more RED iPod's? All you can order is a random collection of colour, which is utterly pointless.

To quote Wikipedia... "SKU refers to a Stock-keeping unit, a unique identifier for each distinct product and service that can be purchased in business"

If the customer paid for a red x, then their stock system will show 1 less red x. You can't just give the customer a blue x, as you'll end up showing a blue x you don't have and a red x that isn't on the system, which causes a whole heap of trouble... which is why they refund / resell to make sure that it tallies up (and also that the receipt is for the product that was actually purchased!
One day i even stuck posters outside my store as stated 'sorry but if you wish to be spoken to politly and with respect, please visit anothor store' they lasted about three hours untill the manager arrived [...] i was layed off in march

I'm not exactly surprised - if I was managing a store and an employee did something so utterly stupid and contemptuous, you'd have your P45 the same day!

Actually it's quite common for items with different colour variations to have the same code. They tell you one will be sent out from the back, and if you don't like it you can reject it and get another one out. Mind you it's also possible to ask to look at stuff before you buy.
Really? Never seen this anywhere else, ever, across any retailers...

I have purchased a Tv which i had to return because the sound went faulty and was offered a replacement straight away. Since then the TV has started with a red line through the screen. After only having it just short of 4 months i took the Tv back fully boxed with my receipt. I was told by some cocky snotty nosed manager that he would send it off off for repair, when i declined this as i was completely unimpressed with this he said he wouldnt do anything else as he didnt want to suffer a loss of £200 on his profit and loss of the store. How rude!
I contact their customer complaints who said they would resolve the complaint within 12 hours and they failed to respond back to me. I am now left with a faulty sub standard TV and being completely out of pocket.
I cannot believe that a TV should need a repair after only 4 months which is clearly showing that the unit itself is of sub standard quality to start with.
DO NOT BUY ELECTRICAL GOODS FROM ARGOS!!!
    They are not worth it!!!
I can't think of many retailers that would give you a refund on a 4-month old faulty TV - legally Argos are well within their rights to insist a repair at this point.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
  • Have never had a problem with warranty issues, 3 times took a go kart back, on third occassion got vouchers as store did not have the same item. This was when the item was 10 months old. But it has to be born in mind, exchanging goods within 12 months costs Argos nothing, suppliers have to agree to take the goods back, so all Argos lose is the profit.[/QUOTE]

I have to agree with this one. I bought two of the most useless vacuum cleaners ever invented, both of which I returned to Argos within 3 months and there were no problems returning them whatsoever. I was given vouchers for both and will keep them either for Christmas presents or better still a new DAB alarm clock!:j My brother gave me his old Dyson which, although a bit battered, is working well. So its all good!! Mind you, I am certainly not rushing to buy anything else from Argos, once was enough!
