lol mine doesn't seem to think about anything but sleeping, she should be about out of season now & not once showed any interest in the males! Nor they her! I'll definitely make sure she doesn't get overweight tho.

Some of you may have read my previous posts, I adopted a Staffie x a month ago today. I took her to the Groomer today & the weirdest thing happened!

When we left, there was a woman on the corner of the street with the car boot open & Chaya was straining towards her, like when they see another Dog (If like mine they dislike Dogs). I thought it might be because she likes cars but thought it weird she was straining as I couldn't see another Dog & normally she just looks at cars.

Anyway, the woman gave me a weird look & said something I couldn't hear, and she was actually speaking to the woman in the car, it turns out the woman in the car owns or did own the Sister of my Dog, and the woman in the cars OWN Sister owned my Dog (Confused?)

Apparently the Owner had mental health issues & while my Dog wasn't neglected or abused, she probably wasn't looked after as well as she could have been & kept repeatedly straying, obviously the old Owner made no effort to locate her.

I am in no doubt that they were genuine as they knew when she'd gone missing, it was about when she was found, they said her real DOB & that she is 5, the rescue estimated her to be 6, my Dog obviously recognised them & was pleased to see them & her name was Tiger. They said she's actually a full Stafford, but the Parents weren't registered or with papers, so that'd explain why we can't see another breed in her & she looks so much like one.

They said she's house trained & hates Dogs (None of this I told them) & apparently she loves kids. It's weird as I got her from a rescue about 12 miles away & they don't even live in my village! They obviously don't have my name or address, and said the Owner wouldn't want her or to claim on her, but they'll say she's well looked after. I feel so weird, happy to know her history (She was lucky to not have had Pups as she's not spayed & was straying alot), sad they let her stray & be out on the streets where she could've died of cold or hunger, attacked or been attacked by another Dog, run into the road, been mated etc the lot
  • wow - just replied to your PM - how odd is that!!! At least you know more about her now, her age and background etc, and you can stop worrying in case someone is out searching for her and worrying about her!!

It must have been really strange though! Did it 'wierd you out'? think it would've me!

Ooh - how did she get on at the groomers? did she behave? did she have to have anything nasty (bumwise!) done?

Is she a picture of loveliness now? watch out, as soon as they smell nice they get a urge to roll in stinly things! lol

tbh as she's short haired & not there for clipping or anything I didn't think i'd notice much but she looks amazing & very shiny, very much like a shiny conker actually! She smells lovely & was good, they finished early! They said leave it 1hr 15 then collect her but she was brill apparently & loved being dried, shall take her once a month.

Her glands are ok lmao apparently but it's nice to know if they ever aren't I can take her there to be done (10 minutes walk). Groomer says her weight is good now, she needs to gain very little & she's in excellent condition.

Yeah it freaked me out meeting them! I mean out of all the places local to the rescue! And it's not even my closest rescue, was one 30 minute bus then one 40 minute bus then a taxi! But to literally find them a few doors from the Groomers, I hope when they tell her old Owner/their Sister that she doesn't want her back! They said she won't but idk!

Spoke to a lady about her holiday care too & she said how lovely she sounds & how responsible I am when I said what I want her trained on & why. She's having a 2hr training session with an APDT trainer on 14th, plus her classes from Thursday which the Groomers Daughter is going to also

Chaya's calendar is fuller than mine what with training, assessments for holiday care, vet, groomer etc
  • Wow that all sounds good! Glad she looks good and the groomer is happy with her condition - I bet she has put weight on and you havent noticed cos you see her all the time! Better for the dog to be bit skinny than overweight.

As I understand it, even if her of her old owner suddenly decided she wanted her back (which sounds unlikely), I dont think she has a leg to stand on legally, as the seven day period is there for that, and to be honest it does not sound as if she was able to care for her properly anyway, sadly - and yes, it does sound as if she was lucky not to have been run over or injured whilst being out and about!

Yeah the rescue have been informed just in case, as has the groomer. Neither of course will give out my info. Rescue said sometimes if it was special circumstances maybe, say Dog stolen from Scotland & dumped in Devon, Owners searching all over that area etc then I guess they couldn't reasonably have been expected to find her, but with miine they said she's had the week they tried to catch her, plus about 6 weeks in kennels and 4 weeks with me, and not tried to find her!

She's done her 7 days in the pound, the Woman said her Sis let her roam & she strayed ALOT. Woman on the phone about the holidays said if she's not recalling or is straying she's not that happy. She's not even once tried to escape here even when in heat.

I always think if an Owner comes on the scene with a genuine reason & solid proof of Ownership, i'd do what was in the Dogs interests, if the Dog remembered them & wanted to be with them etc, but in this case I wouldn't say yes!

Anyway, i'm glad to know about her, upset thinking of how she must feel (I keep thinking to lose your Owners, spend a week or even more possibly freezing cold & hungry & straying, then all that time in noisy kennels, then rehomed, then you find your Owner & they won't let you go with them, horrible.

Anyway she's my Dog now & won't be straying anywhere! My shiny conker dog is here to stay!
