Just a quick question - do you know anything about growing celeriac?0 -
germination is slow so they need a good early start i would sow in Feb and transplant at the end of march in to pots and then final planting position about Mid April about a foot apart in all directions.
It is bital that they are keep moist, do do not the soil get too dry. They should start to swell and push out of the ground about early JUne dependant on where you are. You can start to harvest the roots late August early Spetember but you should be able to harvest throughout the winter with the later roots being about 1kg and only slkightly less when prepared foor cooking.
Hope that helpsKind Regards

Thank you. I was told to snip the roots to about a 1" just before planting out. This apparently would make the celeriac bigger (normally too many roots - not enough bulb). I am however a bit scared to do this - but then my celeriacs don't grow very large - I might give it a go. And also, as they grow - the soil should be scrapped back quite often. I did this too - but again, not much change in the size in the end. :-( How about feeding them? - chicken pellets, manure ...?0 -
To be honest never did any of that. I don't even cut the roots on my leeks and they always turn out fine.
You could try doing those things, I always found that I could ask two old chaps down the lotty site and they would both do different things and get results. I was told I'd sown my peas all wrong in my first year yet I had the best crop on the whole site.Kind Regards
