  • My Oh has just told the children we will get some this month and that we should six. I guess it won't take that much more work to look after six as it does four.

I've made my mind up that I'm going to get the bright red eglu cube.
    Kind Regards

Hi Mumof4, I'm so sorry to hear about your chickens. You really are an inspiration to us all. I'm wondering about getting some chickens but my dh is worried about noise disturbing the neighbours. We are by the far the youngest couple on our estate of bungalows - I think everyone else is retired.

PS I'm planning to sow a few broad beans in those paper posts that decompose when you plant them this afternoon.

I think anyone who has got chickens will tell you they wish they got them years ago as do I.

    MONEY SAVING TIP
You can sow beans, peas, sweetpeas, sweetcorn in loo rolls. iut works really well but just keep an eye on them so they on't get to dry. Plant them strasight into the ground making sure the rim of the top of the roll is covered with soil. Start collecting now. My neighbour has a problem with over cleaning and he gets through a loo roll a day so I have a never ending supply;) .

Also save yogurt ots, pots that the cream come in are good because they are big, even plactic milk bottles are great, just cut of the top section and you have a ready plant pot. If your garden centre as a reycling bin for plant pots go and help yourself to some last year I picked up over hundred pots all in good condition.
    Kind Regards

Wow.... Thanks so much for the plans - I didn't realise just how much work you have put into them and I can't wait to get started!

Thanks again - all the best for 2009!

  • Thanks for the plans, they are fantastic! We have already made a start as have overwinter peas, onions and garlic in (mid october). We are now trying to decide what spuds we want and need to get a move on with ordering/buying the other veg seeds we want, oh and we will need to complete the rabbit proofing we started earlier to stop our 2 pet bunnies from eating a better diet than we do :D . Fingers crossed we are much closer to getting our allotment.

I am sorry to hear about your chickens, I hope your kids aren't too upset. I would love to have some chickens, but really don't have the room for them right now, especially with 5 raised beds, 2 rabbits and 3 little boys taking up the whole garden.

    I hope you have a great 2009!
  • Thanks for the plan mum of 4, they look very useful.

Well my OH thinks we should get 6 hens this time. We had thought about getting another two anyway. It's easier to get them in one hit rather than add to a flock.

Really do miss seeing them in the garden
