Awww Gemzie, here's a cup of coffee (I have put a spalsh of brandy in it, hope that's okay?) And I've put a plate of cream buns on the counter, you just help yourself.

Now then, what's the problem? You rant away, that's what we are here for ;)

    Hugs

Job issues. Apparently they weren't told about my disability bit on my application. And one of the supervisors has basically said that I'm useless because I can't do lots of overtime or lift things :( It really hurt and made me think if they'd got my disability info that they probably wouldn't have hired me, so now I'm worried I'll be got rid of at the end of my trial period.
I just hate how someone can completely write you off as useless when I've been working really hard and it's a struggle just to get up and get there. Argh

Oh that's awful. Firstly, you are under no legal obligation to declare your disability on your job application, and secondly, since they are now aware of your disability, they have an obligation to make reasonable adjustments to their working practices to make sure that your disability is accommodated and also they must make sure that you are not treated less favourably because of your disability.

Does your employer have a HR department?

Also, it is worth knowing that although you need 12 months service to bring a claim for unfair dismissal, there is NO minimum period for disability discrimination claims.

Make a note in your diary of what has been said to you and keep making notes of any comments or problems you have at work about your disability.

(I'm an employment lawyer - or at least I was before I had to give up work - so feel free to pm me about this)

Most importantly, relax and take care of yourself ((((Hugs))))

We'll listen... and dish out virtual goodies and provide support.
Does your job description mention being available for overtime or lifting things?
If not, your supervisor is out of order for even hinting that you are expected to do those things.
If you wrote your disability on the application form and the people who hired you didn't tell the supervisor, then it is the communication chain at fault, not you.
  • Chin up Gemmzie......
