Danni, that was the first chair I had, very good
I ruined it at a festival though in the mud, the frame got bent out of shape due to the sheer amount of the stuff
plus the 18" seat didn't support me enough.
CWTA, please don't feel you have to take her advice, however if she has suggested that, then instead you should be able to get some help at home, would that be any use? I have a friend who has blackouts and so she has someone come in twice a day to check on her (she also lives at home with parents, but they work in the day) and do food and anything that could be risky. I can imagine how you feel at the suggestion of sheltered housing, and you need to do what you feel comfortable with, you're the one who has to live with it after all! x
My car's home with me now, I drove it a little bit last night, couple of 15 minute trips (actually should be less than that... but I'm being cautious without dual controls, and with new car!) to take my brother to and from work last night. Hoping to get it taxed today (waiting for insurance cover slip!) and then can start driving it "properly". Hoist should be fitted next week too, which will make life easier for mum at first!

Oh noI know how much you love your home and garden and independance. It's up to you of course, but maybe wait until you've picked up from the glandular fever, at least you should feel stronger then and more up to making the right desicion for you iyswim.

stepmother is coming up to look after me and cat for a few days from Sat, thankfully. gp gave me oral morphine to take - not the cause of my weird typing, that is my arms being locked in this weird position, grr. but it helps a little.
so guess i will see you all next week ... and will learn to look where i am going a bit more often. damn this week will be boring, can't go out as can't use my stick and building door is too heavy to open like this. glad i have lots of books!Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Take care Trialia. We expect to have at least 5 book recommendations by the time you are back!!
You may want to pop down to the library for some audio books too - at least someone can be reading to you whilst you rest your arms.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

Oh no, Trialia. You poor thing, you'll be climbing the walls, I bet. Well at least metaphorically.
I wish you a very speedy recovery. *Very careful ((((HUG)))*If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Gutted for you Tria
Apparently the rest of my results have come back (gobbledegook to me!) and he's ruled out suchathing and suchathing and has officially concurred with a Fibromyalgia dx. How incredibly relieved I feel(!)It does help that it's in writing and I can put it in with my DLA form now though
MIL's decided that throwing herself to the ground (and not being able to get up) is a great way to get me out of bedShe fell (sort of tipped forwards instead of backwards when she went to sit down) on Tuesday night (but only told us on Thur night), and then on Fri morning I was awoken to a few missed calls and her neighbour at my door for a key to get in cos the police were about to break the door down to let the ambo's in!! She's ok, other than shaken up and hurt her knees, but it's getting to the point where I'm starting to wonder if merely sheltered accomodation is going to be enough...
She rang DH tonight (luckily he'd been let out of work early) because she'd left her zimmer (previously despised but now relied on since the 2nd fall) in the dining room, so she could carry her tea thru to the lounge, and couldn't get up out of her chair again. I've mithered everyone I can think of for support and care and whatnot but....:(
Hope you're all as well as can be...:)"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
Did a boot sale earlier today.....now can barely move and my legs don't seem to recognise the rest of my body.
Whilst there, middle son fell over (he was getting me a cup of tea, bless) and dislocated his little finger, he put it back in immediately but it was obviously very painful. I took him upto the hospital as a just in case and they have strapped him up but they had great fun trying to find out exactly what happened, how he fell etc as his memory is so bad, he couldn't even tell me 1 minute after it happened what happened.
So now I have an aspergic in pain 13 year old...which makes him incredibly stroppy! He is like a raging bull right now, flying off the handle at the slightest thing and to top it all, I commited the mortal sin of using his bowl to have some cereal (all the bowls are the same to look at but this one has a slight imperfection that only he can see!)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Hi Sue
Can you take "Mr I'm 13 and doing it very well" out to the shops on a special trip to buy him his own, personal, bowl or does he have to use something that is the same as everyone else? I know that some kids like the "special" feeling where others don't want to be different....
I went out with my parents (Mr & Mrs Cookie-Monster?) at the weekend. Mr Cookie-Monster tends to forget that I have feet and that they stick out further than anything else when I'm sitting in my wheelchair. I don't have much feeling in my feet any more so it wasn't a pain issue - it's more that after you've knocked over 3 displays, you really need to leave the shop!! I'm looking forward to the day they manage to sort my neck and shoulders out so I can self propel!!
Hope everyone has a good week.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Oscar, practice makes perfect! I've been using my chair for nearly 2 and a half years now and my mum and brother are the most skilful wheelchair pushers ever
Dad's not so good as he's normally working when I toddle off out for a shopping trip so he's not had as much practice! When I first started using my chair though mum would knock things over left right and centre! We still manage to have at least one wheelchair related incident when we go out most times, we're always laughing like crazy idiots
